Passport question?

Would any of you ladies know or how are you ladies doing it: when filing for my passport what name would I use? My name now or my future hubby's name??

Re: Passport question?

  • I've researched this - and it says to use your name now because that is what will go on your passport & you will have A LOT of difficulty trying to travel if your passport & your ID have 2 different names on them.

After you get your marriage license back, you can apply to change the name on your passport to your new name.

But for now, you need to have it with your current name so it matches your ID (since you can't change the name on your ID without your marriage license either)

  • You definetly need to put your name NOW on the passport.

If you are planning on changing your name then going on a honeymoon after the fact than that is fine- if you have time to get your passport- but passports could take up to 6 weeks to come in.

Lots of people have had tons of trouble as PP said trying to travel with different names on things.

Also when booking your honeymoon- unless you are leaving after your name has legally been changed (on everything!) then yu need to book it under your maiden name.

I wouldn't suggest using your "new" name for things like traveling and passports until about 2 weeks after everyhting is all offical and has been changed, giving everything a chance to "make it through the system"

It's really easy to cahnge the name on your passport after the fact.
