First RSVP added a guest...

I mailed my invites out on Saturday and got my first RSVP's back today. My very first one was my parents (of course) and the second one was my elderly grandmother who added on her caregiver, which is obviously totally fine with FI and I. She can't do much for herself anymore and I guess when she got the invite in the mail she told her caregiver she would be more comfortable w her there instead of family taking care of her needs. I'm glad she will be comfortable and happy that her caregiver agreed to come as she is not live in and only works weekday/daytime hours so she's putting herself out to come. I just found it funny/ironic since my first RSVP added an "uninvited" guest bc that seems to be everybodys biggest fear on these boards. We are having no children except kids in the BP invited so I'm really hoping nobody adds on their children....

Unfortunately I just had this happen too, except they added both of their children.

We have a line on our RSVP that says " ____ seats have been reserved in your honor" and we are going to print on each one a number.  So if they don't get a guest, it will be "1".  Hopefully that clarifies a bit!

We've gotten about half of our RSVPs back so far and nobody as of yet has written in an extra guest.

We had some friends add on their foster children...I kinda feel terrible I didn't know they were foster parents.  Totally fine with us, I just feel kinda crappy I didn't add "and family" to their invite.  FI's aunt and uncle also wrote in both of their own grown children (who we had both sent invites to with plus ones), actually saving us 2 extra guests.
I'm glad grandma's feels so comfortable with her caregiver and I hope your whole family can relax and enjoy themselves a bit more knowing she's well taken care of!

We have had about 4 add on a guest :-/.  It's pretty awkward to have that conversation of "I'm sorry, but you can't bring a random guest to my wedding when I have 35 people on a 'b list' that are waiting for their invites"...

That's great that your grandma will have someone to help get her around at the wedding.  Will take some stress off your family.  

I only invited my Sister's daughter for children (they are flying in from AK).  Add ons is my biggest fear as well.  However we needed meal options so each RSVP had two lines for name and where they would circle the meal....I'm hoping that will cut down on any extra guest.

We did this and the first RSVP scribbled out the 1 and put in a 2. She is a single person who wrote in that she will bring a date.

We haven't sent invites out but we've tried to be clear no children will be invited.  Unfortunately, my fiance's aunt is super offended that her 3 month old grandbaby is not invited to the wedding.  It's very frustrating and while I feel a little bit bad about setting that rule, we have far too many friends and family members that have kids and babies and we cannot have all of that.  Plus, who the heck wants to travel a long distance (they'd be traveling from VT to PA) with a 3 month old??? Not me!!

I can't believe the lack of etiquette that society has!  It's safe to say that everyone over the age of 25 has either planned their own wedding or at least was close to someone who did (and therefore heard that person vent about added guests on the rsvp).

 Where do these people come from that add extras?!  Why are they SO rude?!

I haven't sent out invites yet, but I have a website they are to rsvp on.  The design is set up in such a way that they type their name in, it recognizes that name from my list, and it then allows them to rsvp for each person in their party (so it would also bring up their spouse and allow them to check yes or no), but doesn't allow for typing in extra people.  I hope this works!

I had one guest write in 3 extra people! Ive had about 10 guests add people...Im glad we are having a buffet but i wish that when i first sent out RSVPs i had been more clear! Its soo stressful...we have 105RSVPd so far!
