August 2012 Weddings

Wedding changed to August!!!!

Our wedding changed from december 3rd to august 19th and I haven't  done a thing! Well i have my dress and bridesmaids dresses, but other than that nothing is done. I am usually so on top of things and great at organizing things,but with this I am lost! Where do I start???? Please Help!!!!

  • You need to get a venue ASAP. Before you choose your themes, colors, invitations, anything- you HAVE to have a venue to get married in!!!

  • I have a venue now my aunt has an AMAZING backyard and we will rent a tent. I picked up a few books at the book store today. Thank you!

  • I would finalize the guest list before venue if you haven't sorted that out yet. Venue would come next and then officiant, caterer/rentals, photographer. We've been engaged since August and we did things in this order: bridal party, guest list, venue, photographer, dress, officiant, caterer/rental company, registry. We're settling our cake baker soon (probably beginning of next month) and figuring out men's attire sometime in April as well (hopefully.)

    Congrats on finding your venue--now you should get an officiant asap, if you don't have one already. Since we're on the same time table, this is what I have done so far:

    venue
    officiant
    dress
    BM dresses
    FI and GM attire
    photographer
    honeymoon (this is done probably a bit early)
    registries
    wedding bands (this is definitely early)

    I'm looking to find a cake baker next. But I hope this gives you a little bit of a reference. Good luck!
  • We are almost date twins - I'm on the 18th of August.

    This is what we have done, and the order that we did it in, just to give you a reference:

    - Venue (with caterer, but if you are having an outdoor ceremony, I (am guessing you will have to get your own caterer, so you might want to look into that soon as well)
    - Started guest list and decided on wedding party
    - Booked hotel block for guests
    - Photographer
    - Dress
    - DJ
    - Officiant
    - Bridesmaid dresses
    - Cupcake baker
    - Florist
    - Tuxes for groom and wedding party
    - Wedding rings
    - Rentals
    - Honeymoon
    - Registries
    - Invitations

    It seems like a lot, but don't get overwhelmed!  We have some things done early, so don't feel like you should have all of this done by now.  Just break stuff down part by part and focus on one or two things at a time.  TK checklist is very helpful as well.  If you have your venue, I would look for an officiant and caterer next, then go from there with other big vendors.  Good luck with your planning!




  • Thank you all very much! That is a big help. The biggest thing to work around will be my eye surgery on April 2nd. I will be out of work for 2 months and on bed rest most of April. But this will also give me time to head up to NH and book a few vendors! Thank you again!

    first do photo music then invites thats what we are working on for august wedding then get rings and then flowers Guess you have the hall last do liences
  • Since you have your venue I would do these next:

    Photography
    Music (DJ/Band)
    Officiant
    Wedding Party
    Guest List
    Florist
    Cake Baker
    Registries
    Invites
    Caterer

    Don't worry if you don't have a theme, but having colors picked out would be helpful!! 

    Once those are done then focus on:
    Tuxes
    Rings (I was told to order FI's band at least 2-3 weeks prior to our wedding date)
    Honeymoon
    Limo/Transportation (if you're using one)

    And all the other little things (favors, guestbook, unity ceremony items, etc..)!

  • We have had a very productive weekend!  We chose a venue, have a guest list, picked a theme/feel with colors, chose center pieces which I have almost everything together to do a mock up, I have a JP, we will not need transportation, I found tiara's for the jr bridesmaid and flower girls ( $6.00 each at the craft store normally $40 each!) My aunt is a cake baker so we are all set there, have a possible invite option, and we are having my sister do our engagement photo's this week for our save the dates that will go out by Sunday.  Thank you again for all of your help it made it a lot easier to get everything started!
