August 2012 Weddings

What kind of bar are you having?

At your wedding what type of bar are you planning to have? We need to stock our own and we keep flip flopping on what we plan to serve. We are doing an open bar, but we have changed our mind from full bar to beer and wine and one signature liquor drink only. What does everyone else think? I've been to 2 weddings this year that were beer and wine only and they were great, and no one seemed to have an issue with it.. What are you all doing?

Re: What kind of bar are you having?

  • We are just hosting beer and wine as well.  Liquor will be available for purchase.  I know that cash bars like this are considered rude in some circles, but in my circle, it is common to only host beer, so I know that my guests will be pleased to have beer and wine hosted.
  • we're doing the same as libby.

  • We are having an open bar. What you are doing is perfectly acceptable. Only host what you are ale to. Hosting an open bar was very important to us so we made sure it was part of the day.

  • We are just doing beer and wine and a signature drink (probably a variation on vodka and cranberry). We'll have a large variety of beer and wines and are pretty happy with the decision. I've been to several weddings that were just beer and wine and everything was fine.

We're doing beer and wine, too - that is absolutely okay.
    Anniversary
  • We are doing a keg, two boxes of wine, and a signature cocktail, which is a mojito and then suppling extra flavors of rum if people want to try somthing different.
  • Thanks everyone you are def making me feel better about this decision. I feel bad bc originally we were going to have liquor drinks as well and there are a few people mostly close friends who have asked us what kind of bar... So I hope they aren't disappointed... After purchasing the wine yesterday I got 10 cases (for 105-110 guests) and still have to purchase the beer... The liquor is just a task that has been a black cloud above me since I got to NC last week... I was dreading having to get it... And all night I'd be afraid of it running out! So while I feel pretty confident in our choice to just host beer and wine, I want everyone to have a food time and not feel like we didnt provide them with something they would have wanted...

  • We are doing full open bar, it was something that was important to us at a wedding.  We had looked for a venue where we could bring in our own alcohol to save money, but ended up going with a venue that has it's own bar.  Fortunately none of my family (around 20 guests out of 70) don't drink so we aren't being charged for those guests to use the bar

  • We are hosting our own outdoor reception. We will be doing a huge selction of beer and then some wine (almost everyone we know drinks beer). I'm a vodka/ rum girl so we will have a selection of that as well. Since it is on our parents property it will basically be drink whatever liquor is here and once it's gone, it's gone.

  • We're just doing beer and wine too. Then adding a couple VIPs to our bar tab. :)

  • Open bar, since it is at my FI's parents home outside, we have a big tent and are buying what we need for the bar. Most drinks minus something outside the norm.

  • We are having beer and wine.  Our venue does not have a liquor license for a full bar.

we are doing a full premium open bar only bc we both wanted that.  if you want to do beer and wine then go for it.  it's your wedding.

  • We are hosting beer (Miller LIte & Spotted Cow) & soda only, however it is a full bar and liquor will be cash bar.  I live in the midwest where cash bar is the norm, so I don't anticipate anyone taking offense to that.

That being said, if I go to a wedding and there is no liquor available, I must say I am very disappointed since I do not like beer or wine.  Since I am used to cash bar, that's fine with me to get a drink or two, it's when it's not even an option that I'm a bit bummed.

  • Neither of our venues allows hard liquor which has made things much easier, planning and budget wise.

At the preception [before the wedding at our ceremony venue], we're offering a champagne bar, 2 kinds of sangria, tea, lemonade and bottled water.

At our reception, we're offering 4 beers and 4 wines, along with the tea, water and lemonade.

  • We're also doing an open bar with beer and wine only. We also didn't want hard alcohol since the reception is at his dad's clubhouse we don't want things to get out of hand.

Ours is open with liquor but if I went to a wedding where it was beer and wine only I would be completely fine with it!

Our venue has a cash bar, but everything is available--beer, wine, liquor, etc.
  • Our venue comes with an open bar so we will be doing that. 3 beers, 2 wines, and a bunch of mixers.
  • we are doing an open bar but with only certain beer, wine and a a couple kind of cocktails. It is a fully stocked bar so if our guests want something thats not on our list they can but will pay for it themselves.
