August 2012 Weddings

Rude!

So I had allready gone in for my fitting and all I needed was a bustle so I now have my dress chilling out at home until the big day.  I had gone in by myself for the fitting since my mom lives in PA.  She is down here now for a couple of weeks and wanted to do one last fitting with me to make sure everything is ok with the dress so I called DB, different location from where I got the alterations done, to get an appointment to just try the dress on again at the salon and they seemed totally confused on what I was asking.  All I want to do is to come back in a month before the wedding to try my gown on again with my mom this time.  All they kept saying was that they have never heard that before and wanted to make sure I had all the alterations I needed done.  Why is my request so weird?
My mom just wants to see me in it before the wedding, is that so hard to understand?  She hasn't seen it since we bought it last August.
So I have an appointment and hopefully we won't have any problems.  I hope I don't need to get it pressed again or I might have some problems with that too.

Re: Rude!

  • Okay, I'm confused too. If you have the dress chilling at home, why do you need to go to a different David's bridal to try on the dress again? Can't you just try on the dress you already have at home in your own private space?

  • ditto PP.  I even re-read your post to see if I missed something.  The request seems odd to me.  Why go through the head ache of going there.  I would just try it on at home.  If for some strange reason something isn't fitting right then call them up for more alterations.

  • I would just try it on at home. I've tried mine on at home when I got my shoes and jewerly.

  • I suppose I could do that, I just am not sure if my mom wants that experience of going to the salon for me to try it on, but it would be A LOT easier to just try it on at home.  It is very hard trying to plan a wedding when my parents live out of state and far away.
Sorry to have confused you girls

  • PP I am doing that exact thing, so I don't think its weird. My mom is coming to the area the beginning of August and I have an appointment to try my dress on again at David's Bridal. Here is my reasoning...None of my bridesmaids could be present at my fittings, so no one knows how to do my bustle. I surely don't know how to do it because I can't see back there with the dress on. So, I talked with the alterations people about coming back with my mom a few weeks before the wedding so that she could see how the bustle works, and also to get it steamed again since its been in the garment bag since April.
  • I have pets and a toddler at home so if my dress was here I would probably prefer to go into the salon to try it on again too, just to avoid any potential accidents. My dress is still at the salon though, they are going to hold it until the week of the wedding, that way I don't have to worry about anything happening to it or my FI seeing it.

  • I've tried mine on at my house, my maid of honor's house, david's bridal, my seamstress's house... LOL
