Save The Date Question

So i am in the process of purchasing my save the dates.  Me and Fiance both have HORRIBLE handwriting and dont know anyone with good writing well enough to ask them to write them for us, sooo The place we are ordering them from offers return adress printing for an additional $40 for 100 envelopes. Is this reasonable? I am not sure how much they charge for guest adress printing but i could imagine it would probably be more.  Would it be worth it to spend the extra money, i know most girls on here are against the label printing but it would be convenient and easy for us. unfortunately we are trying to spend the least on our save the dates, so should i just print the labels(clear obviously) and then spend the extra money to print our invitation adresses? Opinions welcome!

Re: Save The Date Question

  • If you're trying to get out on the cheaper side with the Save The Dates then I would wait and just spend the money of invites. I don't think most people pay attention to the writing on the Save The Dates.

  • I'm having the same problem. My handwriting isnt horrible, its actualyl not bad I guess- but its not how I want my save the dates to look.
Actually when i got my save the dates printed, they did the return address on my envelopes for free. However, I used to work for a printer and I can say that 40 cents for a return address is pretty standard. I have seen from 30-60 cents done.

i looked into hiring someone to do calligraphy- but its $1 an envelope and that seems like a waste for a save teh date.

As my printer said, save the dates are a luxury, not a necessity- don't worry about going insane on them.
I am a perfectionist so i am going insane anyway.

I know most people on here don't agree with the label, but if you really don't like your handwriting I would do them JUST for the save the dates. Then get your invitations professionally addressed. You can pick a really nice calligraphy font and do it on a clean label, nice and big.

  • You could always print it out from your own computer if you don't want to write on them.

  • I would definitely not spend the extra money, but my handwriting isn't too terrible. I can make it prettier if I take my time and try! lol

So for the Save The Dates, does the return address need to be written/printed directly on the envelope? Or are return address label stickers acceptable? Just wondering since the envelope will more than likely get tossed anyway!

  • Most modern printers can handle printing directly on the envelope.  That's what I did for the engagement party invites (my grandma wasn't tech savvy enough to do it. so she told me to! haha) Just make sure you have 5-10 extra envelopes.  I put the first one in backwards, and my printer 'ate' about 3 more... =P

They came out great though!  Printed the address and my return address all in one step.
  • We used clear labels for the save the date (Staples Avery) and did ivory colored enevlopes and we couldnt tell it was a label and we printed a cute image of dress and tux next to it.  We figured the save the dates were a little more informal and we didnt want to waste the dollars. I have no time to begin with so the idea of me writting out 115 save the dates and hand cramps along with them make the labels win.  We got compliments on the save the dates and the cute image.

  • Thanks for the advice girls..I guess I never thought to run them through the printer myself, very dumb of me!! I think I'm going to go with option first and if that fails well clear labels it is (sorry to the girls wseepage that it's just really my only option and does not bother me at all)

  • Use your computer and printer!! Yes it takes time but you will use them for save the dates and think of the time you will save by addressing invitations! Templates are free for most Avery formats.
