August 2012 Weddings

Getting ready timeline....

Our ceremony starts at 5pm and the venue is about 30 mins from home. I have no idea on how to set up a time line! Everyone is going to different salons to get their hair done which means i have to get my hair done with my hairdresser then drive 30 mins to the hotel where my makeup lady is meeting me! Any advice?

Re: Getting ready timeline....

  • My advice is to work backwards from the ceremony/pictures start time.  Don't forget to include travel time from various places, as well as build in extra time. Here is my getting ready timeline for the bridesmaids and me as a reference:

8:00: Meet in hotel lobby to carpool to salon (if getting hair and make-up done)

8:30: Hair and make-up at salon

11:45: Travel back to hotel and pick up sub platter

12:15: Eat subs for lunch in hotel room (parlor suite)

12:30: Bridesmaids get dressed and do final hair and make-up touches in hotel room (parlor suite)

    1:00: Depart for golf course

1:15: Arrive at golf course: Libby gets dressed, and bridesmaids do final getting ready and decorating

2:00: Pictures on golf course of Libby and bridesmaids

2:30: Mock getting ready pictures in dressing room (boys pictures on golf course with second photographer); final hair and make-up touch ups

    3:30: Ceremony begins

  • I would plan to be at the ceremony l action earlier than the start time. Our ceremony is 630 and we will be tucked away in a waiting area at 6. Using that as a time frame we worked backwards with our photographer to figure out the timing of everything. Definitely build in extra time for traffic or other snafus. You don't want to be pressed for time or stressed about being late.

  • Work backwards:
    Ceremony: 5:00
    Your arrival: 4:30
Leave hotel (makeup): how far is this from your ceremony site?  I will guess 15 min - 4:15
Arrive at hotel: 3:15 (allots an hour for makeup, adjust to your needs)
    Leave hairdresser: 2:45
    Arrive hairdresser: 1:15?

  • My timeline is probably the most indepth thing you've ever seen and it's in excel so I can't show you on here, but my ceremony is at 5pm and we are doing hair and makeup at 12, it's just me a 2 girls, and our first look pictures are at 3. I would give your hair dresser AT LEAST an hour to do your hair and then drive 30 mintues and then probably 30 mintues for makeup. I'm assuming your not doing first look pictures but my suggestion is to be fully ready (hair and makeup) an hour before the ceremony and that gives your 30 mintues to dress and 30 mintues to chill before the ceremony, that is if your ceremony is at the same place your makeup artist is.
  • Mine's a little OCD =) My photog gave the best advise - work out your schedule, then back EVERYTHING up an extra 30 minutes.
