What would you do?

I am currently in the process of interviewing for a job, and my former boss knows the woman who last held this position. He gave me her email, so I have a unique opportunity to get the inside scoop from someone in the know. I'm trying to think of questions to ask. Any suggestions?

Definitely ask her why she left the position. What she thought of the people she worked with. What her main tasks were. What things she enjoyed about her job.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of those last two. My current boss just told me that he had a reference call with them yesterday, and they said to tell me that I'm a top candidate out of a pool of 25!

Ask her what things (ideas or skills) were really important to her boss or the institution - that way you can talk about how you have that kind of experience or you strongly agree with the mission.

Oh, that's a good one too. Thanks!
