August 2012 Weddings

Need Honeymoon Suggestions

I just heard back from my job for next year, and I wont have to report until August 20th, which means we can go on a honeymoon!

We need suggestions for honeymoon locations!  As far as details - <$3000, somewhere hot! where we can relax, US, cruise, or abroad (we aren't picky!).

Thanks ladies!!

Re: Need Honeymoon Suggestions

  • I don't know the price but my cousin went to sandals st Lucia resort in December on her honeymoon and all the pictures looked so amazing I know that would be one of my dream vacations. My Fiancée and I are going to Madeline island on lake superior its part of the apostle islands, they have cabins you can rent and two camp grounds. I know to me being under the stars on a lake with a nice fire just screams romance, hope these ideas help

  • We're doing a 7 day cruise to Bermuda on Celebrity, out of the NY area, for under 3k.

The St. Lucia thing will probably be too expensive if your looking for 6+ nights (it was way over my budget and I'm doing 6nights all inclusive for 3k. If I had done non all inclusive maybe I could have pulled it off, but then I would have spent a lot of money on alcohol & meals over the 3k once I got there)

When I started looking I found that airfair was WAY more expensive than it was, even last year, so that pretty much determined where we would go (from Boston). We found the cheapest places to fly were Mexico & the DR and like you just wanted hot weather with a pretty beach to relax at.

With that we chose Cancun. I found out that Cancun is much more safe that P*nta Cana in the DR (where most people will tell you not to leave the resorts without a guide). Also Cancun has a lot more options for excursions and tours and if we get cash gifts for the wedding we want to do a couple. So we could have either stayed at a really upscale AI (palace resorts) for 7 nights in their cheapest category rooms, or we could got for 6 nights at a 4 star (we chose the Fiesta Americana Condesa) for 6 nights in their best room with a jacuzzi on the patio... we chose the latter and I'm super excited. And since it's hurricane season we got trip insurance just incase (included in the 3k total we spent). Also August is one of their hottest months, just an FYI.

We highly considered doing a cruise, but it was gunna be slightly more expensive than an AI, we didn't want to be in small living quarters on our honeymoon, and drinks arn't included and we knew we would end up spending way too much on my fruity frozen drinks that I plan to have multiple times a day ;)

Have fun planning the HM, it's so much fun!

  • We booked at Secrets Wild Orchid in Montego Bay...it was $3400 for 6 nights, including flights from Ohio.  I know the Secrets resorts in Cancun are are a little less expensive, so maybe check there.  I'm not sure where you're flying from, but I think the Cancun resorts were just over $2000 for 6 nights (before flights) when we were looking.

Also, we booked through Expedia, it was about $200 cheaper than booking on the Secrets website. HTH!
