To garter or not to garter?

We're not doing the garter toss, so I'm trying to decide if I need to buy a garter? or wear one at all?

Thoughts? What are you girls doing?

My opinion would be not to wear one during the day or the reception, but if you think your FI might enjoy it later, put it on discreetly as you're leaving the reception at the end of the night.  Also, depending on your budget, you could look at it as a way to save a couple $

  • If you're not going to do a garter toss, there is really no need to wear one (most of us brides don't require one for any reason other than to have it taken off). However, if you change your mind, Etsy has some really great garters. :)

I wasn't going to do the garter toss and the bouquet toss because I think they're a little cheesy. We decided to do it anyways just because we'll never have a reason to do either again.
  • I am having a pretty garter to keep and a simple one to toss. It is really up to you, if you like the idea of wearing a garter then get one but you don't need one.

  • my mom made my garter in buffalo bills fabric as a surprise for my FI, and I'm probably going to wear it during the ceremony to keep my "something old" (an old lace hanky) tucked in
  • I decided not to do the garter for comfort reasons. With a long wedding dress, hair and makeup and high heels, I don't think I can handle another thing on me. But if you're comfortable wearing it and if it makes you feel pretty / nice, I would go for it!
  • We are not doing either bouquet or garter toss, but I am getting a pretty garter that I will put on later in the night Wink

We're not doing a garter toss. I think teh garters are so cute though, but the ones I loved online were $80+ so I opted to not have one

  • Etsy has some great options that aren't expensive if you want one, and you can find some DIY instructions on the internet if you are crafty. But you don't need to wear one if you aren't doing the toss. I think a lot of people use it as their something blue too...

  • We're not doing one but I am having a garter made in honor of our favorite football team- I think it's going to be a fun thing for him to find later on!

  • We're doing a more classy version of the garter thing - my FI didn't want to put his head up under my dress so I'm just going to wear it barely above the knee and he's going to remove it with his hands with my dress lifted just to the knee. :) I was lucky, my mom is an excellent seamstress and made my garters :D

  • I don't think you would need a garter if you aren't doing the garter toss.  If you change your mind, I got my garter for under $3 at JoAnn Fabrics.
