August 2012 Weddings

Just booked my Aug. 11 wedding today! Any advice?

Hi ladies!
I've got my man, my venue and my budget, but nothing more. If you are a fellow sprinter, how do you plan to pull it off? If you are a marathon planner, what lessons have you learned?
Thank you!

  • Congratulations!!!!!  There are so many wedding planning worksheets and printables out there it can be overwhelming!  my FH and I were going to be engaged and live together for 6 months before we even set a date.  HAHAHA The next thing I know, we have the date set and a venue booked within a month, so I've actually had about a year to slowly piece things together.  My advice, have a general idea of what you want, be flexible on the details.  And remember, the wedding might be fun, but it's the marriage that's exciting.  I also have a list of what's been spent.  I started with the budget amount on top, then, when I bought my dress, wrote Dress -$130.  Rings -$80 Bridal Party Gifts -$48 etc, so I know exactly how much I have left to spend.  Has helped me out a LOT in deciding what detalis I can skip and which I can afford to splurge on.  Good luck, and happy planning!
  • Congrats!  Just go on The Knot checklist and contact all your big vendors to secure the date (florist, limo, photographer, videographer, dj/band, ceremony, etc.) then worry about the little checks as they pop up.  I got engaged in October, got all my big checks done and didn't worry about the other stuff until more recently.  Once you get those things, work on dress, bridesmaid dresses, and invitations. Take it one at a time, but start calling vendors now.  Things like favors will be easier because you don't need a person there, but the photographer has to be available that specific day.  Good luck!
  • Congrats and welcome!! :)

#1 things to get are: your dress and venues!!  That is what I learned!! :)

  • Welcome and congrats on the engagement. PP are spot on with their advice.  Venue, dress, and major vendors first, then focus on the little things!
