Dress Fitting

I just went to have my dress fitted at a friend of the families house she is awesome, made her own wedding dress all the woman is such a sweetheart, doing a bunch of alterations for free offered to sew a flowergirl dress for us for free. Now I hadn't eaten all day except for some cakes from cake testing was a little crampy anyway, but standing there for an hour a half in my 4inch tall heels made me so hot nauseous I understood how some brides could feint. Was I sick just because of the standing perfectly still for that long in a thick dress lack of food high heels? Is that normal? Or does that mean my heels were too high they cut off circulation after a while then went numb? Or that my dress is too hot? It took me 2 hours to get back to normal.

Hi there! I'm glad to hear someone else went through the same thing as me! (not that I want you to be uncomfortable, though!!!) I had my first fitting at David's Bridal a month ago and I don't think the girl was ridiculously slow, or that she didn't know what she was doing. I just had a lot of alterations needed so I was standing for well over an hour. I had ate breakfast that morning and when I got there I didn't notice that the fitting area was hot. I do not have a heavy poofy dress by anymeans, mine is like a sleek trumpet cut. BUT  when the girl was working on my hem (she had to pin the seperate layers of satin and lace) I had to have her stop because I was seeing stars and starting to sway side to side. I asked to take a break and I took a walk around the store, I must have been locking my knees, but I felt nausous for the rest of the day. I'm sorry you had a not great experience but you def. are not the only one!

Oh thank God I am not the only one lol! I thought maybe I was just being a wuss or something! I agree with you on it not being a slow worker or anything, just alot of alterations. It definitely made me realize I don't want to make the ceremony too long! But surely it won't be so bad at the wedding tired feet yes but wanting to fall over throw up no since you can move alot more maybe I will have someone bring crackers. It was a learning experience!

I'm sure we'll all be fine but even if you shift from foot to foot that should help keep the blood moving a little bit.  Check out number nine on this site I found.

Definitely make sure you're well hydrated and don't lock your knees!  It shouldn't give you the same feeling at the ceremony/reception because you'll be much more free to move around!

Haha, I was just about to mention how my choir teachers always told us not to lock our knees! This happened to a girl last year. She was on the top riser during rehearsal and suddenly just kind of disappeared. Thankfully the people around her noticed what was going on and eased her down, but her face was so pale when she got up. She had to sit for a while to get back to normal.

Oh my gosh, this makes me feel so much better! The same thing happened to me last week at my first fitting! I'm prone to fainting in medical situations so I recognized the signs that I was about to pass out - and luckily sat down in time. But I could barely pull myself together enough to finish the appointment! I had no idea (until I came home and looked around on the internet) that I shouldn't be locking my knees!

So glad its common and I'm not just crazy

Okay so I probably was locking my knee's too! Glad to know this is all normal there are ways to prevent it : Thanks for all the help guys, I would hate to end up feeling sick/feint at my own wedding!
