Another Hiccup!

So I got an email from my caterer last night and she told me that she is sorry to break the news to me, but that she heard from my venue (I haven't even heard from them)...
that no alcohol can be served outside on their courtyard anymore beacuse a new law has been passed in teh town that no outdoor "park" area can have alcohol.

This is totally annoying because we had the cocktail hour scheduled to be outside and its the only place where we can have it. And now my guests aren't having any cocktails.

the caterer said that they may be able to just butler some wine and beers outside- but I have already paid for an open bar for 6 hours, so i am fuming. she said they can give me a discount.

I'm super mad about this, and I don't understand why the place is considered a public park area, since its just a courtyard outside of a historical site. It just happens to be that the site is owned by the town and not by a private historical society.

I am so angry about this, I am going to be so mad if we have to serve no alcohol outside and I've spent tons of money to rent the space already etc.

Re: Another Hiccup!

  • That sucks. Id call the venue and talk to them so you know excatly whats going on. Maybe they can work something out with you..
  • I agree with Ktina, call your venue to see what's going on.

Is there any way to serve the alcohol inside?

  • Could you have the bar right inside the door, and then let people bring their own drinks out? I know it's not ideal, but at least you'd be getting what you paid for.

apparently this is a big political issue with the venue right now
My caterer said the guy there is being a pain and everything she suggetss he turns up  his nose and says no to.
She said if we have to do cocktail horu just beer, sig drink and wine- then they are willing to reduce the cost.

There is a girl on my local board who is getting married there in a week and she doesnt even know what to expect when she gets there. I felt so bad to drop this bomb on that board- but I'm so ticked no one called me

Actually, my mom thinks that the caterer will fight this. Because if we can only do beer wine and a sig drink, we are just going to jump down to that package for the entire night- since the cocktail hour is mostly the time people are  consuming lots of cocktails anyway--
so my mom thinks that if this is teh case a lot of people will do that and the caterers are going to end up losing money because people are going to be chosing smaller alcohol packages- --so they have the most to lose on this one... so i am going to let them fight it- and see how it plays out in the next month or two
