Favorite Gift?

I just had my shower yesterday, and even though I was a little nervous at first, it turned out really well. I got to see some family members I hadn't seen in a while, and FI's family mingled with mine really well. My sister put so much thought into making it really nice. My favorite gift was from my grandma. It is a ceramic crock for kitchen utensils that says "Libby's Kitchen". My mom and grandma both got the same one when they were married so it means a lot. For those of you who have had showers or received gifts already, what is your favorite gift so far? Or if you haven't, what is one thing you really hope to get? I know weddings aren't about the gifts, but getting something sentimental like this is really nice.

Re: Favorite Gift?

  • So far...we got a toaster so I guess that's our far lol

  • I got so many big gifts and I'm so thankful for them, but I think the one that touched me was the set of candles and poem to explain when to burn them.  It is like this one:  http://www.unique-bridal-shower-ideas.com/candlepoembridalshower.html

  • Wow, mercy4, that is really cool! I've never heard of that before.

My favorite gift is not as sentimental, but it's quite useful. It's this 4 compartment laundry sorter:

FI and I do our laundry separately (I have way more clothes that need more care--it just kind of worked out this way). We had 2 separate baskets in our room that were taking up space, since our room isn't very big. This sorter has made things so much easier, and we've only been using it for 2 weeks! Since each compartment just lifts right out, transporting the clothes up and down the stairs has been so much better (our washer/dryer is in the basement). Definitely the most useful thing so far!
  • My shower was on teh 9th as well!
My fav gift was atually a giada cookbook from my mom. I received another, but when I opened my moms it was autographer from giada

my mom said she waiting for 4 hours in line to get the autograph! I couldn't believe she went through so much effort

and one of my bridesmaids made this amazing basket-- it was a panini griddle i wanted but then she included everything you'd ever need to make apanini  including all kinds of speciality cheeeses, artichokes, red roasted peppers, all kinds of olive oils and balsamic dressings, specialty spreads -etc. It was huge and so thoughtful.
She even included rootbeer bbq sauce for my fiance who LOVES rootbeer.

  • O my gosh it's so hard to pick a favorite. I am touched by the thoughtfulness of my family, so I'll name a couple. One of my cousins made a family recipe book with recipes from my grandma, great grandmas and aunts/mom. It looks professionally published, but she made it herself. I am so touched by it.

My aunts also got together and bought me a KitchenAid stand mixer. One of my aunts told me that they went though hell and high water to get one at the best price, and I can't wait to use it.

My grandma got us a card table/chairs as the shower gift. It's sentimental because she and grandpa got a card table for each other their kids' weddings and their grandkids that are married so far. Also, my birthday was yesterday and my grandma wanted me to open my bday gift at the shower. It was a collection of Polish cookbooks and aprons. The aprons say "Polish Chick" and "Polish Chef"! Luckily my FH came in right as I opened it so we got to take pics of us with our aprons.

I also want to add that my family is wonderful and way too generous...as I said, my bday was yesterday, and they all got me bday gifts in addition to shower gifts. I am soo incredibly touched by their generosity and have no clue how to express it/pay it forward...

I have had one shower so far and my second is coming up. I have two gifts to share, one on the thoughtful/sentimental side and the other from a "holy crap I love this" side.

For our "stock the bar" themed shower, one of my hosts got a glass vase and a bunch of stones and asked each guest to write some advice to FI and I. Some were serious and some were hilarious and I love it because it will always remind us of that day and how much we are loved.

We received an early shower gift from my parents. Since we live 7 hours away from the shower location they thought it would be easier to ship it to us--it was the KitchenAid Stand Mixer we registered for! LOVE it. It is special too because my parents aren't poor but also aren't well off and I know it was a splurge for them  but they wanted us to have something really nice for our home.

  • I have had two showers, so I will list my favorites from both showers :)

    Shower 1
FI's Mom got us a book I wanted "5 Love Languages" as well as a bocce ball game we registered for!!
Also, FI's Grandma got us a Dirt Devil! I love it (FI tested it by vacuuming me lol!)!!

Shower 2 (lots of favorites lol)
Mom gave me my favorite Pampered Chef kitchen tools (ones I've used in her kitchen for years)
Aunt/Godmother gave me Pink Depression Glasses (a special type of glass that I collect) that were my Great Aunt's (I think she was an Aunt, otherwise a close friend of the family), as well as a beautiful shirt for my honeymoon :)
1 Cousin made Bride/Groom glasses for FI and I (which we'll use at our reception)
Another Cousin made us a personalized photo album!!
Best friend from high school- Scrabble game, wine, chocolates, crystal wine glasses, and a basket (the glasses and basket have been in her family for years, but her Mom wanted to give them to me since I am a "second daughter" to her).
Sister- made me a bride tshirt and bride bag, and got me a bride-to-be sash, and naughty lingerie (I was embarassed by the lingerie).. I love the bride stuff!!

My familiy is very sentimental, as you can probably tell by the presents they gave me :)
