Ceremony Music

We are having an outdoor wedding with ceremony outdoors. My FI is a classical musican so everyone is expecting awesome music for the ceremony, like live string quartete/brass quintet, something. But because our wedding is in a really small town and we actually know what goes into practicing wedding music we have decided we don't want classical. This turned out to be really great for like the music when people are sitting down and our recessional but I'm having a really hard time trying to find something for me to walk down the isle to. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also usually do the girls walk down the isle to different music than me? I just hate it because I don't want to pick out a good song just for me to walk down the isle to because it's like only going to take 30 seconds. Please help!

Re: Ceremony Music

  • From what I've seen, brides do all sorts of different things. I have heard of many brides having different songs for the GM, BM, and themselves. I, personally, am just going to have everyone walk to the same song. It's a pretty short song (I think it's only 2.5 minutes) and it's a really feel good song. I have this whole vision in my head for it, so that's why I'm sticking with one.

So will whatever song you pick be just a recording?
  • Usually the bride does have a sepperate song. I'm doing the same though because I just have a maid of honor so it seemed silly to have two songs.

  • Ceremony music is tough isn't it???? Ugh I have spent months thinking of this and just finally in the last week or so did my FI and I finalize. I'll recommend anything by Vitamin String Quartet.. I'm sure you've heard of them if you have lingered on the knot for any amount of time.. they are fabulous and you can pretty much find any song covered by them in string version... with that being said here is my line up... we are not doing ANY traditional music... I just couldn't picture myself walking down the aisle to "here comes the bride" but thats... me... I do see how traditioalists love it... here it is...

Pre Ceremony (while guests are being seated): Upbeat VSQ songs, I'm going to let my DJ handle this part...

Bridal Party: Forrest Gump Theme, Alan Silvestri (FI's fav. movie)

Bride (that's me!): Can't help falling in love with you- VSQ

Recessional: Waiting All of my life - Rascal Flatts

Post Recessional: Waiting to discuss with the DJ..but probaby happy go lucky love ballad type songs...

Hope that helped... and I think you should def. walk to a diff song than your maids, the mood will shift, everyone will know to stand and turn toward you... it's your big moment... :o)

  • my ceremony musician (acoustic guitarist) recommended that the bridal party walk down to a more classic song, Cannon in D, and then do something more contempoary for me. I chose to have him play an instrumental version of Make You Feel My Love (the Adele version, not the Dylan version). Our aisle is insanely long though because the ceremony is outside, so we do have time for something like this. Our recessional is Into the Mystic (guitar and voice). Maybe you could do something more contemporary if you don't want the same old thing everyone else does.
  • That all sounds good. Everything will be played on hopefully just a battery powered cd player/ipod dock. The only reason that I did want to have a different song is so people will know when to stand and what not. Hopefully our families wont be too dissapointed that it wont be traditional music.

lclemence: make you feel my love is going to be beautiful!
  • I'm still figuring out music, so I've enjoyed reading all of these to get ideas!
  • I am walking down the aisle to Sleeping at last by Turning Page. It was the song in the Wedding of the Twlight movie but I just love the melody of the song

I'm actually a ceremony musician(violinist) and own a music entertainment company. If you want a string quartet and expecting some pop arrangements, be ready to look/purchase sheet music and arrangements specifically for the ensemble. Frankly, I never think string quartet pop arrangements sound all that great. If your husband to be is a classical musician, perhaps he would enjoy some real music written for string quartets. I think Borodin string quartet No. 2 Nocturne is a very nice piece. Tchiakovsky's first string quartet II. Andante Cantabile is also a favorite.

The reason I recommend playing real string quartet repertoire is because with arrangement these days you get a lot of amateur composers who don't do a very good job at all and is doing arrangements to make some $.

Have one song for the whole processional is easier on your musicians, eliminating the long pause to switch music. If you are doing one song and want to make your entrace feel special, you can have the officiant to announce for everyone to please stand.
