Awkward (& intro)

Hi to my fellow August, 2012 brides! Congratulations! I'm an August 11 bride, and we will be having our ceremony outside, and reception inside.

So far we've been pretty good as far as getting things accomplished, and the big day is just around the corner. Scary to think how fast the time will fly! I have my dress, invitations bought (DIY- print myself), venues booked, guest list finalized, Cake deposit down, BP attire picked out, and a lot of smaller details picked out!

I've been lurking the boards since June/July'ish 2011, and finally decided to start posting!

Here's my awkward situation: las night FI and I were out and ran into some family & friends for a Birthday get-together. A good friend of ours (that is invited to Wedding) said he's bringing a guest. He didn't even ask if it was OK if he could bring a guest, or anything.

He's not in a relationship, and we can't make room for +1's because our venue has a cap for seating capacity. Like I mentioned, our guest list has been finalized. FI and I just smiled and changed the subject. I just hope he was drunk enough to forget what he said to us, and when he gets his invitation addressed to him, only, he'll get th idea.

Have you had any type of these weird guest situations, yet?

Ive had tons of these situations! since I to am not doing +1's because its one to expensive and two we dont have the room for them.  To some people ive brought it to there attention and they were fine, to others they brought it to my attention and i explained my side of the story.  I was feeling really bad for a long time about this and actually stressing over it as well.  I finally came to the conclusion about a week ago when i finalized my std's and sent them that if someone is unhappy and would not come to my wedding because of that then i dont really want them there anyway LOL as mean as that sounds its YOUR day, and you have to do whats best for you and your FI.

will this person know anyone else at the wedding?  if not, then you really should provide room for a +1.  it will help them feel less uncomfortable.

that being said, is this someone you could have a candid conversation with? Perhaps after the invitation is sent, if he questions it, explain that there is a seating capacity, but once you have a better idea of final numbers, you will let him know if there is room for a +1

i know that is not the best way to go about it (and some ladies on TK will yell at me for even suggesting it. haha) but if it truly is a close friend, they'd understand your prediciment.

I agree here lol!! If they won't know anyone, and you have enough seating capacity I agree that they should be able to have a +1!  I am working with the same issue, noone has come up to me or my FI about it, but I am expecting it sooner or later!!  I actually appreciate reading her reply because it was something I was debating this whole time, even if it isn't etiquettely correct, and am glad someone else is thinking this way! :)

Unfortunately, We have no room for +1's and that is with our list finalized. If I could afford a venue that would allow a bigger guest list, I would deffenitely do +1's and such.

Oh, I see, now. Well hopefully we can spare some room after the RSVPs come in but you never know! My Mom & Dad's wedding had 100% RSVP. Yikes!
