Any pleasant surprises?

Have you had any pleasant surprises along the way in your wedding planning?

My sis (MOH) just told me she would be free the day before my wedding to help me decorate the venue and make the cake.  She lives 1.5 hours away, is pursuing her Ph.D, and so I really set no expectations for her or any of my bridal party to help out.  It really put a smile on my face and made my day!

I also have to add I was floored by my parent's generous cash wedding gift they have already given us in case we wanted to put any of it towards the wedding, as well as FI's parents generous offer/gift to pay the bar bill as well as pay for the rehearsal dinner.

  • FI's parents offered to foot the bill for the rehersal dinner :) in turn I gave them complete rights to plan it :D less stress on me!

My bridesmaids have really stepped up too! They've been more than willing to help with anything and everything and just have been totally awesome :)

  • I've been really surprised with how great my sister, who is my MOH, has been with helping and planning. She isn't a girly girl who is into weddings and things like that but she has been so helpful. I'm really excited for the shower she is throwing me tomorrow. And next week, she is helping me address invitations.

My sister lives in Germany and is planning my shower with the help of my best friend. I was bummed because I didn't think she would be able to come to the shower but my parents helped her with a flight so that she can come for the shower! That has been the biggest and best surprise so far :)

I am a five foot tall 100 pound girl so I knew whatever dress I ended up getting will have get altered. I have already went to the store and found my "it" dress but didn't buy it yet because it was just a little over the price range.

I ended up finding someone who was selling her wedding dress on Ebay and lives only 1 hour away. So I went to her house, tried on the dress and realized that the dress is a perfect fit. The lady is exactly my height and my weight. It was a miracle. I was able to get the dress of my dreams without alterations for $400 cheaper. :)

My fiance found us a new venue (yay!) and the guy is charging us even less than we offered to pay (double yay!)

  • My sister and sister-in-law (MOH and BM) live in other states, so I didn't expect a whole lot from them planning wise.  WOW did they take me by surprise!!  My SIL helped pick out the BM jewelry, took the responsibility of finding a flower girl dress (her daughter/my niece is the flower girl) and found a gorgeous one, and gave me silk rose petals from her wedding for my niece to use to throw!!  My sister flew from Texas to Minnesota for my bridal shower (did most of the cooking and made me a shirt and bride bag), and offered to do my hair/makeup on my wedding day!!

My cousin has also been a pleasant suprise, she took a photography class a few years back and offered to do our e-pics (they turned out beautifully), and while we were out doing e-pics she offered to do our wedding pictures as well!!  We were thrilled about that!! :)

One of my aunts offered to make my veil, and told my Mom she would make food for the wedding (we aren't catering to save money), so that was a huge relief. Also, another aunt offered to make our cake!! :)

  • I had originally planned to hire a classical guitarist for the ceremony, but after some number crunching and thinking about it I decided that the price wasnt worth the 1 hour at most of music he would be playing. My mom was talking to one of my one of my auntys (my dads sister) and she aksed if we asked my uncle (her and my dads brother) to play at the ceremony yet. We knew he played rock music but we didnt know that he knew how to play classical music and has a really nice accuistic guitar. So I still get my classical guitarist, and its free and will be even better since its my Uncle not some stranger.
