  • I've been drooling over that place, but was worried that it would be blistering hot in August so we're thinking of going for Thanksgiving or Christmas.  You'll have to tell me what you think!  If you don't mind me asking, did you find the upgrade to a swim out room was reasonable?  There are so many amazing resorts in the area, I'm going cross eyed reading the reviews on TripAdvisor, and comparing rates, I just wish someone would make the decision for us!

<div>Oh it is for SURE going to be HOT HOT HOT! We decided we were okay with that as it was more important to us to go straight on our honeymoon within days after the wedding- to each their own. Our plan to deal with the heat? SWIMMMM! When at the hotel we will be in the pool or ocean cooling off (with drink in hand- duh! lol). The only excursions we are considered have water involved somehow (ziplining and dropping into a cenote & swimming with dolphins). We wouldn't dare do a ruins excursions in that sort of heat- we would be miserable.</div><div>
</div><div>We're just gunna bring a TON of sunscreen and hope that we don't get fried! lol</div>

  • AW! that would have been funny if we were laid over together or on the same flight.
We did it through US air vacatiosn because I had a $100 credit-- but i think the flights were around the same price per person because the entire trip came to 3500 total with insurance and day passes to the US Air Club (I am a stickler for this splurge if you have a long layover. and we have 2 hrs in Charlotte)

Thanks for your excitement, everyone! When I'm stressed, I just look at resort pictures and then I calm down, haha.

In response to the above, we personally did find it reasonable to upgrade to the swim-out room. The part we debated was going up a step further to the Preferred Club. I didn't think we needed it, FI did. In the end, it is our honeymoon, so I gave in. We also saved at least $1,000 (maybe more) by using a travel agent (Liberty Travel, they might be national?). I'd definitely recommend contacting a travel agent and not just going by the rack rate on the website.

I'll report back on everything in late August!

</div><div>A thousand or more saved? WOW! I went through a travel agent but we're lucky if it was $200 cheaper than any website prices I found. When you say "going by the rack rate on the website" are you talking about sites like expedia and orbitz? Cause if you saved over $1000 from what their prices are I am WAY impressed and will be using Liberty Travel (have heard of them many times so I think your right that they're national) next vacation</div>

Yep! I can't remember the exact amount--it might not have been exactly 1K--but it was significant. Our room category is now sold out, so I can't go back and compare. By rack rate, I was referring to the rate on the Secrets website. Part of the reason we were able to save that much is that we paid in full. If we paid in installments, we wouldn't have saved quite as much. We were pretty surprised to see that much of a savings. FI has some theories on why Liberty Travel was able to offer that rate, based on his research on their business model (he's almost done with his MBA, can you tell? haha).

Our travel agent was nice, but we weren't totally wowed by her responsiveness. Still, it wasn't too bad, and we were able to save a good bit. Can't hurt to try them out for your next trip!
  • No kidding! We're going there too! However we're going from 8/10 to 8/13. He will probably be teaching at college, so we had to choose a weekend honeymoon :) It will be awesome, though :D

And since this is my first post, and there being no posts involving introductions and not wanting to be rude, let me tell you I'm new to the forum (not to the site, though), and I'm marrying my best friend on August 4. We've been together since the equivalent of senior year in high school, and it's been 10 years since then. Nice to meet you all! Smile

I just wanted to add to this (albeit a bit late) but we booked ours through US airway vacations. Actually the price on there was $200 less than our travel agent quoted us. The upgrade was only $45  a day for the swim out room, which I tought was well worth it.
At the time US air was running a special that you got double miles. PLUS i used my US air ways mastercard to book.
So we ended up getting 7000 miles for the trip booked, plus another 3500 fromt eh credit reward points. Then I called to see how many points it was to upgrade to first clas. SO for a portion of our flight (*Charlotte to Cancun which is 3.5 hrs) we are upgraded to first class with the miles we earned, plus then we didn't have to pay for the US air club.

The rest of the points added to what we already had ended up earning us a free flight.
