August 2012 Weddings

1 and a half months to go - its time to make some cuts....

I'm thinking about making some budget cuts.... chair covers, chocolate fountain and yankee candle favors... I'd rather get my man a wedding band that he loves ( he's not thrilled over the free ones we won) also get a diamond band for myself and have a great rehersal dinner... any one else making crunch time budget cuts?

  • We made some a few months ago when we bought our house. Sounds like you are making cuts in the right places. The things you are cutting people won't remember. Your FI liking his ring is more important than a favor for your guests.

  • I should be making some cuts but instead I have offered to pay my parents the difference on how much we go over.. Yikes. haha
  • We made all our cuts early.  At this point everything is a go.  We actually just added a photographer.  One of the earlier cuts that I was stressing over not having.  But we have a little spare money and an old HS friend gave us a great rate.

We made lots of cuts two months before the wedding. We changed the venue, changed the caterer, eliminated he DJ (seems like we can't get that money back...),  cut back on rentals, downsizing the floral arrangements, eliminating alcohol (due to venue change, we can't have alcohol now), and a few other things here and there.

Had to make crunch time budget costs because we're having significantly less people and it just didn't make sense anymore to have a venue that fit 150 people for a wedding with 30 guests.

At this point we are pretty much committed to everything via deposits etc. Plus we didn't really have a budget to begin with. Good for you for making cuts though! People say nobody remembers the favors and I've heard from other brides that so many are left on the tables at the end of the night :( If we needed to cut our budget I would totally go without favors.

  • They sound like solid decisions.  As long as the two of you are happy!
  • It seams to me that at 2 months out, the wedding is becoming more and more "real".  I think it's a great time to look at your budget.  Things picked several months ago might not hold the same appeal now.
Juggling funds around to give your FI a ring - something he'll wear everyday - is definitely more important than a chocolate fountain - no matter how yummy they are!
