Simplicity Gourmet

Hi friends!!

Have any of you ever heard of this company, Simplicity Gourmet? I did a search on the boards here and there seems to be a ton of discussions, but it all seems to be based on he say/she say. The general consensus seems to be that its all a scam, but I'm wondering if anyone has personal experience, and if anyone has actually booked a trip, or personally knows someone who did?

When I first got engaged, my fiance and I went to a lot of bridal expos, so we started getting calls from a company called "Simplicity Gourmet." They told us we had won a free honeymoon package, and all we needed to do was sit through a two hour cookware presentation. At the end of the presentation, they gave us a voucher for a 3 night stay of our choice to Costa Rica, Domincan Republic, Mexico, and a few other locations. I tucked the voucher away and never though much of it, but now that FI and I are starting to think of honeymoon options, it would be kind of nice if we really did have a free package.

I'll admit, it sounds too good to be true, but of all the accusations I've read claiming it to be a scam, it seems to all be based off of google or the Internet. I've yet to find a personal experience story. Have any of you actually booked one of these trips or know someone personally who did? I'd love to hear your experience and thoughts. Thanks!!

Re: Simplicity Gourmet

  • I have never heard of Simplicity Gourmet, I would suggest googling them to find out, and maybe using Snopes to see if it is a scam??  They usually know when things going around sites are scams (ie. the "if you send this email out, for every person who forwards it so and so will give you a check for $100" and such)..

  • Actually I got a call from something similar, after a bridal show...maybe it was the same thing. They said I won 3 days/nights on a cruise, wine glasses, and an apron. All I had to do to claim the prizes was sit through a presentation. I couldn't make any of the days/times work with my and FI's schedule so we didn't end up doing it. It kinda sounded like a scam, but I figured if I could get a couple items out of it may be worth it.
  • Friends of mine went to this presentation, and afterwards they never received the package they had been promised. They advised me to stay away.
  • You might also consider checking the Better Business Bureau website to see if there are any reviews/complaints filed against them.

But you're right, that would be great if it was actually free! :)
  • Depends on the voucher they gave you.  i used to work for a timeshare company that did something very similar, we used to give vouchers for free vacations very similar to that you speak of after the guests sat through a presentation of what the company offered.  If the back of the voucher has terms & conditions i would read these thoroughly as the ones we gave out explained many black out dates and certain days of travel.  It may or may not be a scam, just look into it a little further.
