Is anyone else....

Letting their FI plan the honeymoon and you won't know where you are going until you get to the airport?!

Well I am.. haha It was an idea my FI had and was really excited about! He knows I want some place tropical and some all inclusive resort so I am not worried that we will end up any place like Alaska, but it is crazy not knowing anything!  I do know that we both have the same ideas for a honeymoon, so not worried at all, I am  not a very patient person though, so I guess this will teach me patience! He met with a travel agent today and told me he has a few ideas that he is really excited about! It is exciting and so crazy that I won't know anything until we get to the airport!! So, I am wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as I am?!

Re: Is anyone else....

  • I thought about that, but we decided to take a mini moon up to the Dell's due to school and work. I may allow him to plan our late honey moon trip during my winter break since my campus extended it. I'd be kind of nervous about winding up in Alaska as well Janelle. I'd probably go crazy not knowing anything. I'm one of those people who needs to know everything, I am not a fan of surpises.

We are kind of doing that and I am a little nervous about it! It's a tradition in his family that the groom plans the honeymoon and he really, really wanted to do it.  I think we're going to end up choosing a few options together and then he'll choose from those and surprise me with the final choice.  After both of us choosing every little detail of the wedding, it is a little nerve-wracking to give up most of the control on the honeymoon (but I think it's kind of sweet that he wants to surprise me)! One of our choices is a cruise to Alaska though...so we could end up there!!

My parents and grandparents didn't even go on honeymoons, so ours will likely be planned in the spring, if at all.

But I will be involved.  We bounce ideas off of each other and end up with something better than what we started with.

Just relax, focus on all you are planning, and enjoy the surprise.
  • FI is working on a few surprises for the honeymoon but our destination will not be a surprise. We're doing a big trip and so I definitely want some say in where we go!

i2012do, ours might not be immediately after the wedding either. We can't decide.

  • i think i am WAY too type A to let fiance plan the honeymoon, so I give you a lot of credit. FI and I have differing views on what is a"nice" hotel. I travel quite frequently so i like places that are a bit more boutiquey and off the beaten path and he is just happy if its nice and clean w a big room.

I am actually pretty sure we are doing a "mini moon" also and then planning a big trip for October 12'. So I wouldnt want to have fiance have all the stress of planning a big trip to europe or someplace.

But if we planned on going away right after hte wedding and were on the same page as to where we wanted to go (like you and your ?FI are) and I trusted his "hotel judgement" then I would totally let my fiance do that.
    I think thats REALLY fun!

  • i2012do...thanks for chiming in! I know  Alaska may not be a "typical" honeymoon thing, but we live in Florida, so we're already in warm weather, and the tropical areas are just too hot for me in August (not to mention the mild hurricane/ storm threats). I'm kind of hoping he chooses that one, but we have other options for him to choose from, so we'll see!

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one doing a "mini moon"!  We don't think we will have the funds for a full-ouit honeymoon after our wedding so we are going on a mini one to FL and then are planning to maybe go somewhere in the Carribean in Dec.
I thought I was the only one doing their actual honeymoon way later, so it's nice to hear I'm not :)
  • We're at the whim of the military to see when FI gets leave, so we're not going to plan a honeymoon until probably a few weeks before the wedding.  We'll go sometime that fall, hopefully within a month or two of the actual wedding.  We plan to go to Oregon & Washington State, but I'll definitely be planning it.  I enjoy planning trips, he doesn't, and we both have more fun when I plan them.  He's actually started telling his family to have me book their trips or to come to me for advice on hotels & activities, so clearly he's pleased!  So yeah, if anything, I'll be surprising him (but I'm really bad at surprises, so chances are he'll just know anyway).

  • We're doing a "mini moon" as well. We will probably do a bigger trip sometime in 2013...maybe early spring or something, depending on funds. We already have to travel 900 miles for our wedding anyway, so we're just going to go ahead and honeymoon there. It's not ideal for me, since it's Indiana lol and where I spent the first 25 years of my life, but it will be fun for FI since he's only been a couple of times. We're going to go to Indianapolis and do a few things. And, since I don't get to see my family very often, we will probably go to my parents lake house for a couple of days with them at the end. I took the week before the wedding off, as well as the one after, so we'll have a full week to spend doing whatever before returning to work, which was the goal!

I'm pretty sure we will both plan the bigger trip we take later. I'm not opposed to having FI plan it, but I don't think he wants to take on that responsibility!

  • I AM!!!! I thought I was the only one 'brave' (or silly) enough to let FI plan the whole thing. He is telling me where we are going in his speech though. So I will know before arriving at the airport!!!

I think its mega sweet. He has saved up and booked it all by himself. I know he will have thought about me while chosing the destination/hotel etc, so I'm not worried. It will be wonderful!! :D
  • I know where we are going, but he is planning everything else. I feel like my job is the wedding, his is the honeymoon! haha. we're excited
