HELP....
I only want 180 guests at my wedding.  I am inviting 213 people, and adhearing to the 20% rule, I should come in under 180.

What percentage are the rest of you using?

This is the first stressful issue I have had to deal with and I am just freaking about it.

if my math is correct if you adhear to that 20% rule, you should have 171 guest show up.

I'm using the rule of hoping it all works out... I've heard the 20% rule but for destinatino weddings we assumed it would be higher... like 40% so we invited 190 and are hoping for 100...

I am counting on everyone coming - I mean, we have the venue & means to accomodate everyone we invited.  I don't actually think everyone will as we invited a few OOT, but we'll see!

Am I being stupid by adhearing to that rule?  I have read it on serveral websites, but am just nervous.

There's no way to know the actual number. Depends if people are local or have to travel more local more likely to show. I'm counting on a high show rate because I've only invited 80 people. These are close family and friends. The more you invite the further you get from your core group the more declines you are likely to get. You always hear of people that hope for a 15/20 no show rate end up with 90/100 so Made sure I had enough in my budget for 100. That being said 100 is very unlikely.

We are not going by that rule. We are hoping, but we can accommodate everyone. We are not inviting more then our venue can hold or more than we can afford.

We are hoping out of our 319 that 270 show, but we are budgeting and preparing for all 319 to show and I think that is the best thing you can do until RSVPs are all in.

My cousin sent 300 invites. 300 replied yes. 297 showed. I wouldn't invite more people than the venue can hold for a fluke that just about everyone comes!

I definitely don't think you should plan for a percentage of people not to come when you send out invitations. We budgeted for 150, even though we are inviting slightly less than that. I don't want anyone to feel like they aren't wanted because we are over our limit. I think its best to plan for 100% attendance and if less come then you'll save some money and space out the tables a bit more. I've heard on here that some people have lots of declines and some have very few (if any).

I'm personally counting on about 25% not coming. Those weddings where everyone shows up are more unlikely than ones where people cannot attend. From working in a hotel catering background I can tell you that we usually instruct brides that approximately a quarter of the invited guests will decline. I don't disagree that there are other factors to take into account, such as destination weddings having a higher decline rate, and weddings where everyone is local having a very low decline rate, but I wouldn't be too worried about this. With the RSVP's I've gotten so far I'm actually seeing more like a 33% decline rate. Maybe people just don't like me, though.

We only invited as many people as we are willing to accomodate but we are having a small wedding. 99 on the guest list including myself and FI, vendors and babysitters. Expecting some declines and hoping for about 90 guests total, but if 100% accept and show up we will have a place for them.
