Envelope Question

So my invitations came with white A9 envelopes that are of average quality, nothing fancy.   They aren't pocketfolds or anything elaborate. My first thought was just to line the envelopes myself and send them that way.  My second thought was to be "proper" and order some nice color coordinating envelopes for "outer" (or maybe inner?) envelopes. What do you ladies think?   Did you do an "inner" envelope?  If so, should the inner or the outer envelope be of nicer quality?  Other thoughts?Sorry, I'm somewhat craft and etiquette challenged.

As far as etiquette goes, technically you should have an inner envelope because the outer might be damaged and difficult to read...(that's really the only reason).  If you want to do that and make it colorful, that could look really nice.I don't plan on investing in them, though.  Waste of time, paper, and money, as far as I'm concerned.  I've been given more than one invitation without an inner envelope and have yet to be confused as to whether or not I'm invited or mortally offended :)

I didn't do inner (although that is a nice touch).  You could use the ones you have for the inner and buy nicer oversized ones for the outer--but you may cause yourself to go up on postage.I had a similar situation and just got a little nicer envelope for the invitation.  I got linen envelopes from Anchor paper (since my invites were on linen cardstock) and then lined them myself.  I thought that was plenty.  Anchor paper had the best prices BTW.

I vote for lining the inside, btw.  I love that look.  It's like a fun little surprise :)

Oh thank goodness!!! That was my main question is if it was "tacky" to not have one.   I did one of the envelopes to see what it is like with the liner and it looks very nice...but I think I will look into higher quality envelopes.  Going to Anchor now, Stephie!  Thanks!

It is definitely not considered tacky to skip the inner envelope. People are more environmentally aware these days and understand not wasting the paper. The only reason I would suggest making sure to have the inner envelope is if you are having a very formal wedding.

I agree, it depends on how formal your wedding is. Mine is case is formal so I had traditional ivory invitations with an inner envelope addressed to the guests who I wanted to invite. However, I did skip the tissue paper...I think that is a waste. I lucked out since the inner envelopes came with the invitations, they were not an extra charge.
