Ok - this is awful - but I can't believe it is taking EVERYONE so long to respond..... the biggest surprise is the local people.  We sent SAVE THE DATES back in January 2012.  Invites went out a month ago!  Deadline is in 11 days.... and we have LESS than half who have reponded. 

Is this normal?

Why are people so slow in sending these back?

same exact thing happened with me.  Im Aug 4th, STD went out in Feb and invites in the beginning of may.  I recived almost half back within about 2-3 weeks and since then maybe 3 have come in.  i think people just put these things on the their fridge and forget about them until they peek and realize they have little to no time to send them back in! i wouldnt worry too much im sure within the next week you'll start getting a bunch back!  ... i think our excitement makes it a little harder to deal with the slower people

I'm an August 18th bride, so our deadline is a little further away... but I'm experiencing the same thing... there was a rush of about 20 right away... and now a steady one a day... the local people surprised me too... either you're coming or not!!! The people who have to travel I understand there is a lot of plans and prep that go into it... but COME ON!! It's taking all my power not to start emailing people to find out... but once July 18th hits (one month out) I'll be contacting people to figure out their plans... If I were you I would do the same on July 5th...

I've still been getting a few each day, but our wedding isn't until Aug 18th. I think a lot of people wait until right before the deadline to send the RSVP. I'd suggest waiting a few days after the RSVP deadline before you start calling everyone. Since your wedding isn't until Aug 5th people may not have made definitive plans for the summer yet.

To be honest. this happened to my friendShe only received 65 of the 90 RSVPS she was expecting back and had to call all the other people.
MOst people that didn't rsvp were her fiances single guy friends, distant family etc (which makes it even more awkward to call them and ask_)

Wait until a week after your deadline. Hopefully people just forgot, they probably have it sitting in their purse or on the fridge and just keep forgetting to drop it in the mail.

A week after ,I'd start calling around.

Ours is August 17th and we are getting one here and there, sometimes 2 in a day. Not even half of our guests have RSVP'd yet. It's so frustrating! I'm sure tho that since we're on a friday they're waiting to see if they can get off work to attend or something. It's frustrating though!!!

I'm in the same boat August 3rd wedding. I don't think we got a single RSVP card back all last week. I've been excited to get one in a day lately! It definitely makes it worse that the people who are not resonding are the people I'm least comfortable calling :. Oh well. There are still a couple of weeks for people to get them in. My fingers are crossed!

Same thing here...  thinking that some of the regrets are waiting to send a response closer to the date, and some people are waiting on work.  We haven't rec'd any in almost a week!

yes, same thing is happening to me. some of the people I already know are coming, so it confuses me why they would wait to send in their rsvps- like members of the wedding party. also, on top of that, we're having a destination wedding, so it seems that in order to make that trip, they would already know by now if they're going i.e., have already booked flight, hotel, etc...

It is so common, people are just bad about sending the cards back. It sucks for us but hopefully you want have to call too many people.

This is why I'm not sending my invitations until next week for my Aug. 25th wedding - I want people to open it, see that the RSVP date is looming, fill out the RSVP and send it back as immediately as possible. When the RSVP date is more than a month out it kind of loses its urgency.

on the same boat with the aug 18 brides....sent invites out a month ago, not even 1/2 are back yet.  we have a bit less than a 1month for the rsvp deadline but people please!!!!

I sent mine on Friday, so the fact that we've gotten over 10 RSVP's back is crazy!!  I'm sure people haven't firmed up their summer plans yet, or they need to talk to kids, etc.. I am excited to keep getting them back, and I hope you ladies get yours back soon!!
