Rings!

Yesterday my FI and I went and looked at rings.  I am getting the matching band that goes with my ring but he hadn't tried on rings yet.  Talk about such an amazing feeling seeing him with a ring on!!  He was so cute about it.  He wants to look around before he decides.  I can't blame him...  I had my fair share of looking before we got engaged!  :)

  • we're going to go looking in a couple weeks, I think.  I'm excited, too!

  • I just picked mine/FI bought it this weekend!!  its SO PRETTY and I can't wait to wear it!  OP -- i looked EVERYWHERE before we decided on one (which is why i took lots of trips alone and just brought him back to a store if i found one i liked).  I think it definitely helped me make a decision.  I originally wanted to match my band exactly, but i eventually went with a cradle ring which looks stunning with my E-ring.

He has one in mind, but we have to wait a little while to see it in person to make a final decision.

Personally, I loved his face when I brought him back to the store to see what I picked out.  He lit up, and said "thats so you".  Made me so happy!  Of course after he bought it, he wouldn't let me try it on to take a picture of it.  He said "It's like the dress. I can't see it til the day, so you don't get to see this again til the day" ....so all I have is the website picture until it gets put on my finger! =P

Also, I agree with PP... it was definitely a little bit of a shock/cute to see his hand the first time he tried on a ring =)
  • We've been looking around for rings already; mostly just online so far.  We'd like to buy soon.   However, the rings that we've been looking at and really like are titanium, and my engagement ring is white gold.  Do any of you know of any issues with wearing titanium next to white gold?  Will it look okay?  Will the titanium ring wear down or damage the white gold ring?  Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.  :)

I'm sure there will be some differences, as the metals are different. one might scratch faster, etc.  white gold DOES turn a light yellow after several years.  i'd definitely ask a jeweler about wearing them together...  also, some rings can be made in the other material.  we were looking at a few that can be made from about 4 different metals...so maybe the design you like can be made from white gold??

one thing FI and I learned is that the 'alternative metals' are tricky (titanium, tungsen, ceramic).  I forget what he said about titanium... but the other two cannot be re-sized, and also cannot be cut.  so if for some reason you get it stuck on your hand, injure your finger, etc where they would normally just snip your ring off -- they cant. they quite literally have to smash it to pieces.

i'm pretty sure titanium can be resized and cut....cuz FI was worried about that, and he's still considering titanium and white gold. might wanna double check though if it matters to you =)

Thanks for the info!  I hadn't even thought about a possible cutting/resizing issue.  I'll definitely bring that up with a jeweler to see if that applies to titanium.

My fiancé has been working so hard to lose weight over the past year and some, and he's already dropped a few ring sizes... and he is planning on losing some more weight yet.  It would be sad not to be able to resize.  I also would be scared to get my finger trapped in a ring that had to be smashed.

I'll post some info on this thread about titanium after I've spoken to a jeweler.  Thanks so much!!!

PS - I wanted to check out your Etsy shop, but the link doesn't work.

i know!  FI and I joked that he'd have a 'fat ring' and a 'skinny ring' based on how he felt that day haha

shopping around was the best thing we could do. we got lots of info from different jewelers. just make sure you go to a reputable shop.

PS -  uh oh! i'll have to fix that.  My storefront name is "CharmedByWine" - only a few items so far. planning to add more soon!
  • My ring is white gold and we bought his in titanium. Personally I don't care if they match, I wanted to get something that he liked. The only time you are going to see them side by side is in a few photos, that's it.

My advice would be to get what you both want, if they don't match oh well! The two of you together is what makes you a perfect match, not your rings :)

<div>No there will not be any problems with it and my opinoin is that white gold and Titanium looks really good together:) </div><div>
</div><div>Even Palladium and Titanium do great together, and Palladium is much softer metal than White gold, so you souldn't have any problems:)</div><div>

  • My personal preference is always yellow gold. I feel like white gold can look like silver and titanium is just not my thing. But a ring is a ring!!!!!
