May be TMI...but help please

I just sat down with my calendar and since I'm on birth control, and my periods are very regular, I figured out that I will be starting my period on my wedding day. How annoying! Is there any way I could possibly avoid this happening??

My Dr. said to skip my inactive (sugar) pills the months of July and August, and I shouldn't get a period for those two months, but I'm afraid I will have breakthrough bleeding on the most important day of my life. I'm not so concerned about the wedding DAY, but more so our wedding NIGHT, that I can't deal with this happening!

Please, any suggestions/advice? Has anyone skipped their sugar pills and succesfully skipped a period?
TIA.

  • If your doctor said its okay to skip them, then skip them, you may have some light spotting, but shouldn't be that bad. Just be sure to be prepared just in case!

What's funny is that I actually picked our wedding day based on this! Haha, but yes, if your doctor says you can skip your sugar pills, do it. I wouldn't be too concerned about spotting , its definitely better than the alternative ;)

  • I asked my dr about this to and was told to do the same thing.
  • Are you saying you skip the sugar pills, and immediately start taking the next month?  This will 'jump start' your period, and you will be a week earlier than normal.  Any sort of birth control will do this.
  • Yes, this works.  I've done it in the past to adjust mine.  I did tend to have a tiny bit of breakthrough bleeding, but it was about 2 weeks into taking the new pack of bcp (meaning, instead of taking the sugar pills, I went right into a new pack and during the 2nd week or so of the new pack was when I had the very little breakthrough bleeding).  I'm sure it will work itself out!

  • Yes this does work. But I would advise you do it sooner than July. Just so you don't have to worry about the breakthrough bleeding. Instead of taking your "inactive" pills at the end of your pack, start right into the next pack of BC pills. It will cause you to skip that period, but it will then come a week sooner than it was originally going to.  I just did this 2 months ago so mine won't fall during the honeymoon.  You will have a little bit of spotting for the first couple of weeks into your pills, but then will be back to normal.
This is what my doctor advised also. So it must be a normal thing.
