Writing your own vows

Hi ladies,

Are any of you writing your own vows?
I just started mine a few weeks ago and have been revising and rewriting for a bit. I feel like I've hit some writer's block.
Any advice or helpful tips?

We were just talking about this last night.  Haven't decided whether we want to write our own or go with something more traditional.   Many aspects of the ceremony aren't traditional so it may seem strange to have traditional vows.

We are writing our own vows. I started a few weeks ago and then yesterday went back and added somethings. What I'm doing is writing about what I love about FI (sense of humor, kindness, etc.), then about us as a couple (what marriage means for us, fun times, etc.), then about my vows for the furture (faithfullness, honesty, etc.). That's as far as I've gotten and when I feel stuck I don't think about it for a couple weeks so that when I do get back to working on it I have new ideas.

FI and I are writing our own. His request although I do love the idea. At first I was having troubles expressing myself. I made an unorganized list of everything I felt, everything that crossed my mind. I talked to him about it then a few days later I put it all together to see what sounded better.

I wrote our ceremony. I looked on the internet and found some examples, then asked for some advice here on TK, and pieced together a bunch of what my FI and I liked and pertained to us. We wanted a short, and simple ceremony, and didn't want to say the typical "for richer or poorer, sickness and in health..." so I wrote the vows we will repeat after our officiant, but we both decided we would be too nervous to remember, or read something up there! I give you all a lot of credit for doing it!!

Thanks for the advice ladies! I'll just keep at it and keep taking breaks from it good luck to all of you who are doing it too!

Yes, we are doing it since FI wanted to.  I also looked up examples online just to see what vows looked like (as well as went to the Vows board here) since I was lost about that!  Then, as the moment would hit me, I'd jot stuff down.  I'm not going to try and express everything I feel, but just sum it up, so I'm keeping them on the short side.  No need to ramble on here!
