August 2012 Weddings

Well, crap! Now what?

So I was so sure our venue would allow guests to toss dried lavender as we walked back up the aisle that I ordered the lavender and doilies to make cones several months ago.
Yesterday, I decided I should just go ahead and double check that it was okay. Today I get an email from the events coordinator that NO, it is NOT okay! Trying not to panic, I asked if maybe guests could toss the lavender indoors as we leave, so that it'll be easier to vacuum up. Nope, still forbidden.
I've had my heart set on having rice/petals/confetti/whatever tossed as we either walk up the aisle or leave. Now we're just 8 days out, and I have no idea what to do. If we can't toss it, fine, it sucks, but whatever. But I've still got something like 4 pounds of dried lavender and a whole bunch of paper doilies, and no ideas as to what to do with them. :(
Any ideas from you ladies?

  • Maybe you can turn it into scent sachets for a favor? That would be one way to reuse the lavendar if you can't use it now. (Doesn't really solve the paper cones but then you'd have to buy little mesh bags or something to put the lavendar in) Or just try to sell it all on craigslist or the wedding classified boards on here.

Either that or you'll have poutpourri or dried lavendar to make your own bath products with for years to come! (Trying to be positive!)

What a pain they weren't up front about it and aren't being accomodating about it, even if you are willing to clean it up. It's not like it would stain something or it's not biodegradeable!

  • Can you return the stuff and get your money back? I'd think you could return it since you JUST got it.

Our Church won't let us throw anything either.

  • The doilies could be returned, since we just bought those, but we've had the lavender for several months, so we're stuck with it! FI had a few good ideas, like using a little bit of lavender around the floating candles in our centerpieces and taking a lavender bath after the wedding (isn't he a doll?). My usually very calm mom is uncharacteristically livid, she's gone all mama bear on the situation; I've had to repeatedly convince her not to call the venue!
We'll figure it out, I guess. Like jodiemarie said, I could always make a million lavender-scented Christmas gifts for the next three years! Tongue Out (sigh)

  • Our church won't let us throw anything either so I got butterflies that come in envelopes for everyone to release as we walk out the only down side is that they're frozen and everything has to be timed perfectly.

  • We went the easy route...bubbles!  Plus FI's 9 year old daughter is SO EXCITED for after the wedding, because I told her she could have the extras.  : )
  • The venue now says we can toss lavender on the grass next to the pond out front. Which might be a little odd, like "Ok everybody, now we're walking over here to toss lavender on them!" but whatever. :) At least I won't be making lavender bath soap for the next decade! :P
LibbyC730, I totally should have done bubbles! Yeesh, why didn't I think of that? Too late now, I guess. I'd be excited about leftover bubbles, too! :)
Sarah082012, what the what, frozen butterflies? They come frozen and then they just sort of wake up as they defrost? Nature, you so crazy!
