UNTSING

How do you find musicians from UNT? Were do I look? We were thinking of a musician during cocktails.

A lot of times you can post on Craigslist or something like that. I did that when I was trying to find a trumpeter for our ceremony.  I think musicians really troll those sites for gigs, because within an hour I had at least 5 emails and I actually found my trumpeter through a chain of emails off of a guy that responded.  He was interested, sent me a resume and sound clips, then he also sent me names of a few other people, one of whom I eventually chose. Also, your ceremony location may know of some.  Our organist at our church was a UNT grad, and knew of LOTS of current (and excellent) students.  What kind of musician are you looking for for cocktails? I still know of a few really great local musicians...

When I was looking for an a capella quartet I emailed the director of the a capella chorus at UNT and he had a student contact me.

Shannon has a good point. Craigslist is very good for that type of thing, but the professors will be able to recommend talented, responsible students. What kind of musician(s) do you want? Mandy or I might be able to point you in the right direction. But know that some of the more experienced students may already be working professionally on a regular basis and might charge more.

Well it wouldnt be for my ceremony since the part of the rental fee at the church pays for a organist. But we were looking at something such as jazz, guitar or something for our cocktail hour or while the buffet is open. Something like background music. We dont need a quartet or a group of people.

John Murphy is the division chair for Jazz Studies. He's a really nice guy. He was the interim chair for my division when I was working on my thesis, and I really like him. john.murphy@unt.edu But, I may be able to do one better. My friend Maristella is a jazz guitarist. If she can't do it or is out of your price range, she would probably know someone else. I don't have her contact info on me, but I'll drop her a line on Facebook and then get that to you.

I figure since the post has your SN I can use this to tell you (Mandy). I had a dream that TJ and I went on our honeymoon and came back to find that you and Michael had given your autographs on all of my solid color shirts! It was weird and I was really mad! I guess this means I need to get it before y'all get famous ;)
