Honeymoon destination

Recommend your honeymoon destination.I want to get a trip planned for DH and I before we get bogged down on things and don't end up going anywhere.I've looked into a lot of Carribbean places, but Hawaii also sounds nice... I really have no idea where we should go, so give me some ideas : )

Oh and I'm thinking about something for August - I'm not sure if that makes any difference, but thought that I'd add that!

DISNEY WORLD! But not in August. You will die from the heat and the crowds.

Yea - And I lived in Orlando for 8 years, so Disney isn't that exciting to me anymore, lol.Although my mom would like that idea since I haven't been back to Florida for more than 2 years : /

We're going to Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto, & Osaka).  Not exactly everyone's idea of a HM destination though. We also researched Fiji, Thailand, & Bali.  We're going to China for a couple of small receptions with my grandparents right after the wedding, so it had to be somewhere relatively close to China.  Logistically, Japan was the easiest.  And I've never been, so I'm definitely up for it!

FI and I really want to take a Mediterranean cruise (like in my siggy pic from last week!), but we're so lucky that my dad will be able to get our tickets with his miles and FI's mom is going to help with the cost of the honeymoon (I guess that's the traditional thing?). I'd like to do Fiji or Tahiti, but FI doesn't like that idea. We've also discussed Australia or New Zealand, or visiting a different Hawaiian island, we've been to the Big Island. If you haven't been to the Big Island, I loved it and would recommend it for sure!

San Francisco/Marin County.  Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.  Great weather.  Cool evenings/mornings and low to mid 70's during the day.

I'd really like to go to Australia - but the plane tickets alone would be more than 3k : /

I think a roadtrip through the Northwest would be beautiful, and if you can hit up some of the Oregon and Washington wine trails, even better!Ok, I need to add that to my vacation "want" list.

TJ and I LOVED Maui. We stayed right on the beach and there were plenty of things to do. I would love to give you recs if you decide to go there. Here's the view from our room to entice you while you decide :)

Not to mention, to go to Australia would require a lot of time off work since it takes so long to get there. I'd love to go to Japan! But I probably wouldn't actually get to see anything because I'd be in a sushi coma from day one!

Hawaii.  Second choice was San Francisco/Napa for me--but FI has been there several times.  Maybe for our first anniversary though.I love all of the pics I see of Carribbean honeymoons and sometimes wish we had gone that route.

FI and I have been to Kauai twice, and we LOVE it.  It's not as "touristy" as the other islands (partly because it is more expensive), but they have beautiful beaches and GORGEOUS mountain/valley scenery.  It's known as the garden island, and there's definitely a reason for it.  If you want any information about it, I can send you everything we've done/know about the island.FI and I really want to go to Italy.  Other options include London, Paris, Scotland, and then places closer to home - New York, Washington, Colorado, and Oregon. We're trying to plan a trip for somewhere FI's never been, but that's hard because he's been A LOT of places.

Hawaii girls - Are there any good all-inclusives in Hawaii?I like the idea of having all of our meals taken care of.

Cruises are going pretty cheap right now.  I went on one when I was 16 and absolutely loved it.  I always vote for a beach location for HMs.  I would love to go to various places in Europe, but I know I'm going to want a restful, relaxing, resort type place.  I'd also consider the desert--there are awesome spas in Arizona and New Mexico and I love the scenery.  But I wouldn't go there in August.

I don't know of any AIs in Hawaii.  And it's expensive from what we've seen.  The transfers, the food, the excursions, everything.  Maybe Allison has some suggestions.  But, we figured, heck, it's a once in a lifetime trip.   We're going to Maui too.

We went to London for our honeymoon and it was a blast!  It was his first time there and I don't think he wanted to leave. We also took an Alaskan cruise in May that was really fun and more affordable than London. One really great thing about going to Mexico is you are there so quickly and get to spend more quality time off of the plane.

Any one know what Mexico and the Carribbean are like in August? Of course we'd have to get trip insurance because that's hurricane season... but is it unbearable hot in mid-August?

We went to Cancun the week of July 4 and it was hot, hot, HOT.  We couldn't go in the ocean hardly at all because there were no umbrellas at our beach.  We had to stay at the pool the whole time.  If we go to back to Cancun we will not stay at an AI.  The buffet was awful.

I did a lot of research on All Inclusive Resorts when we were considering a destination wedding.   There are apparently none on any of the U.S. islands except for St. Thomas. We are considering Mexico and Costa Rica at the moment.

Kristy, I'm with your fiance. I can take about a day of laying on the beach and then I need to be on the go. My FI can only take about on hour of laying around! I suggested going to the Harry Potter theme park that will be opening at Universal for our honeymoon, but FI nixed that pretty quickly.

I've been to Cancun twice, once in August and once in Sept and both times were hot but not 'I can't take this heat anymore' hot.We stayed at the Golden Parnassus in Cancun, it is AI and adults only (which was very important to me).  They had huts on the beach so there was plenty of shade.Next door was the Ritz and they had hammocks in the shade and offered massages on the beach.  It was really nice, but not AI.

All the Carribean resorts seem so romantic.  I mean, Hawaii will be fun and all and we'll be in a great hotel, but I just love the intimate villas and bungalows in the Carribean.  To me that is more romantic. I saw an ad in a wedding magazine for a "swim up" bungalow in Jamaica where your bedroom door opens up right to the ocean.  I told FI we must go there at some point. For Mexico I would rather do like Playa Del Carmen for a honeymoon.  Cancun just says spring break to me.You can do transatlantic cruises from Galveston now.  We plan to do one at some point.

Mexico is really starting to sound nice.. there are just so many beach cities that I don't know which one to choose...

I had a friend who went to Jamaica, and as he was going through security at the airport, they pulled him and his brother aside into a interrogation room.  They accused him of having drugs on him, and then a man behind him tried to slip a bag of marijuana into his carry-on.  He saw him try to do it, and pointed it out, at that point they released them and let them board the plane. Not saying that's a regular occurrence but scary nonetheless.

Mexico is really starting to sound nice.. there are just so many beach cities that I don't know which one to choose...TJ and I were all set to go to the Valentin Imperial Maya and then the whole swine flu thing came about so we changed our minds. It was cheaper than Maui and we were going to have a suite with a jacuzzi and a view of the ocean. I told him we are definitely eventually going there!

Another place I want to visit is Azores. I had never even heard of them until I saw them on No Reservations, but it's a group of islands 900 miles east of Lisbon. It looked so lovely. They have the Portuguese culture, but they grow pineapples!

My FI and I went on a southern Caribbean cruise this past August and it wasn't too hot. We flew to Puerto Rico and went to 5 different islands during the 7 days. Also, on a cruise the captain can reroute you to avoid hurricanes, it happened to us and we still made it to all of the ports that we were scheduled at.
