August 2012 Weddings

So aggravated with our travel agent!!

This is my first time using a travel agent, and it's turning out to be more trouble (and money) than it's worth.  She came highly reccomended and is actually the #1 Sandals expert in the state.  We put our deposit down in August, and then the prices came down, so those were honored.  Last night we tried to book our airfare for $890, and when she actually ran it today, it had gone up $100.  Then she sends me the invoice to approve the flights, and there's a mysterious "taxes and fees" charge that was not on the previous two invoices!!  This is now $350 in the past 24 hours that we were not accounting or budgeting for!  I asked about these fees, since the fees/taxes for the flights were included in the $990.  We are already stretched to the max with paying for the whole wedding/rehearsal dinner/honeymoon ourselves and I feel like I'm getting nickled and dimed.  I would have saved money and stress if I just booked it myself... but now prices are back up!

Supposedly she's going to talk to her accounting guy tomorrow and talk to Sandals directly... worst case scenario, we scrap it and start from scratch.  I'm 99% sure our deposit is refundable.  I was just getting excited for Jamaica and our excursions and how absolutely all inclusive it was...

So anyone have a good suggestion for a honeymoon for $3400 or under?  We're open to lots now that this might fall through.   So bummed!!!

  • The Couples resorts are actually cheaper than Sandals.

We looked at it, briefly, and could spend a week, including airfare, for $3250.

But I believe those rates expire today.

  • I would go on Sandals website to see if there are any deals or upcoming sales.
I always assumed they were affordable (hence, why so many people do them).
Have you checked into other AI in Jamicia.

I know a girl in my apartment building just went to Jamicia and siad it was fantastic. There was a hurircane in the NE when she was there and they "got stuck" in Jamicia for another 5 days, she said the service was incredible.
I believe it was at a Sandals resort. so I would def. try to keep with that, if that;s what you want.

I always have REALLY good look booking through Expedia.

Otherwise- have you considered a cruise?
It's "almost" all inclusive since it includes food. and they are really inexpensive.

Fiance took me on a cruise when I graduate grad shcool. It cost us 1300 total, and we stayted in an ocean view room and went on a 6 night cruise to the bahamas.
It was totally affordable. After excusions etc we spent around 1800.

  • Thanks guys... We've done carribean cruises, so we didn't want to do that for a honeymoon.  If we book the same package at Sandals today, it'd be almost $4,000.  I actually heard back from the travel agent and a $250 credit magically appeared and they boosted it up to $350, because I think she was getting the feeling I was ready to look elsewear.

So while I'm not thrilled how things have gone so far, we're now back to paying a little less than we thought for the whole package, so I think we'll book it.  I don't think we'll need the travel agent for much else since this will be the final invoice and hopefully the money part is over.
