so today is my FSD's 18th birthday and Sunday is her graduation party.  Awesome, great, wonderful.  The store my FI works at sells "broken cases" (mix/match cases) of beer for only 6.50 to employees....so my BRILLIANT FI goes and buys 9 cases.  We have 4 people living in a small apartment that is over crowded and ALL storage space is filled with wedding stuff.  I don't even have room to breath as it is, and now HE has to find a place to store 9 Fing cases of beer.  Seriously.  it's a HIGH SCHOOL PARTY.  We are serving beer to the handful of adults that come.  THEN he had the NERVE to jump on my a$$ because I didn't gush over and praise his purchase. "If it's not your idea then it's not a good one, is that it" he said.  JERK  We're broke!  I am a subsitite teacher...no work over the summer, and work at McDonalds...not exactly rolling in the dough there..  He went and bought his daughter a 60 dollar dress, ordered 50 dollars worth of chicken to grill (not to mention all the hotdogs and buns we have to buy) and then buys 9 cases of beer.  Oh, did I mention that the cake we're getting her is costing an arm and a leg?  ON TOP of the 100 banner, volleyball net and decorations I PURCHASED.  And he wonders why I procrastinate joining accounts.  Why couldn't he have gotten 2, or even 4 cases.  Then I would have totally been on board. 

I'm going to be stuck with 9 ugly beer cases piled in my frikin' living room now....and for the next 6 months (because I dont see more than 1 case getting drunk at the party Sunday)

Sorry, just so annoyed.  And hurt at his comments.

Sorry you're going through this, I think I would be annoyed, too. I hope FI is helping you with the wedding expenses since you're helping with FSD things.

it's tough coming into a family.  FSD's birthday is 4 days before the wedding, so we're trying to do a lot ahead of time for her party so she doesn't feel overlooked on account of the wedding (or me!).  She wants to take a trip the weekend of her birthday and we're just not going to be able to hack it this year, so we'll have to find some fun alternative!  We're also doing a birthday cake for her at the reception dinner. 
Perhaps your FI is trying to protect his daughter from feeling overlooked or like the wedding is more important than her graduation.  I have a feeling my FI will do the same for his daughter and may find some wiggle room in the budget for a small birthday trip!  At any rate, it's a sensitive topic and I hope you're able to avoid any more hurtful comments on the subject.  Not defending what he said, but I'll bet he's feeling some extra pressure right now to be "fair" and balance his responsibilities to you and his daughter.  Good luck and congrats on FSD's graduation!

I have insisted on a seperate birthday party for her so her 18th doesn't get overlooked...he just saw cheep beer and jumped on it, not thinking about being stuck with 9 cases.  I can't imagine he would think having a bunch of beer will make his daughters graduation party better....she doesn't nor could drink any of it, neither can her friends.  But, after time to calm down I do understand his heart was in the right place.  It is a stellar deal.  the boxes will just have to get stacked up on his side of the closet LOL
