Tip / Cash Gift for Deacon?

Hey Ladies -
We paid $400 to get married in our Catholic church which was considered a "donation" -- now we're getting married by a retired Deacon who also was part of my Confirmation and my daughter's Baptism. Now - we want to give him a gift above what we paid the Church for -- how do we go about that? We were thinking of giving him a thank you card with the cash inside. Does this seem appropriate? Any advice??

Re: Tip / Cash Gift for Deacon?

  • We had a similar church fee and chose to gift the Priest a $50 gift card to Sendiks and two nice bottles of Chardonnay. We inquired at the Parish Office if the priest had a favorite wine (which, thankfully, he does!) However, we come from a large parish, so we do not know our priest well.

Since you have a closer relationship with this Deacon, you may have to personalize your gift a bit more.

Everyone always advises against a cash gift, as sometimes they will need to donate it back to the Parish.
  • Well if that's what he would like to do we're fine with that - we talked to FI's mother last night (She's on staff with the Catholic parishes in the area) and she said cash is standard around here...
