Need Help With Fish Choice

My FI & I are not fish eaters.  We are going tonight to make our menu selections.  We have to pick one fish to serve (we have 5 different tableside  choices - a beef, chicken, pork, vegetarian, & a fish).

If you could have any choice of a fillet of fish, what would it be.  Do not include shelled fish.

My one friend mentioned Tilapia as a neutral nice fish.  Another said Chilian Sea Bass (don't know if they will charge more for the bass).

Help... less than 5 hrs to chose & I didn't really think about it until this morning.  Oops....

  • Agree with PP. Tilapia.

You're probably safe with tilapia (flounder too).  Since it's so light it won't overtake the flavor of the dish.
  • I mass texted my friends - Tilapi & Salmon seem to be their favorites.  Surprisingly more are saying Salmon.
  • Tilapia because it is a nice subtle flavor.

You could also do salmon if you want to be a bit more adventurous.

  • Halibut, especially if it's from Alaska.  I think tilapia and salmon (wild, not farmed, please) are also nice options, and I don't think you need to worry about choosing a crowd pleaser (i.e., not salmon) because you are offering so many entree choices.
  • Tilapia. Chilean Sea Bass is also not a very "eco-friendly" fish (don't know if that matters to you or not).
  • I personally prefer Chilean Sea Bass over tilapia since it's a bit meatier.  Another option is lemon sole.  It's a bit more delicate in flavor than tilapia.

  • So before we could even tell our menu manager which fish he made a suggestion based on my June 23 date. He said honey soakedpecan encrusted salmon. He said the honey removes the strong flavor. Funny since that exact dish is what turned my friend onto salmon. TX for all your help The majority of my friends said salmon I guess NJ is big on salmon...
  • We are BIG fish eaters (FI doesn't eat any other meat) and we love Salmon(1), Tilapia(2), Cod, Haddock and Sole.  I like most kinds of fish really... FI prefers fillet.
