do you need a topper really??

Opinions~~What do you think...seashell themed beachy cake...no flowers most likely...do I really NEED a topper...just 2 layers...small wedding...And if so, with a beachy cake, would a monogram letter look out of place??

We aren't doing a topper. They are a little gimmicky or something IMO. LIke toys on top of the cake. Check out the cake pics on theknot- tons with bare, clean tops. I think the shells around or at the base would look great or even a few on top, if you want a topper.

Looking at pictures of cakes on theknot... it felt like most cakes did not have a topper. If you dont want a topper, don't get one :-)

you don't need a topper, personally I think they're mostly pretty cheesy, i'm only having one cuz FI wants one and found one that fit our theme (which is also beachy) http://www.magicalday.com/Cake_Toppers/Beach_Lounging/lounging_small.jpg

We didn't have one (mainly because we forgot to buy one).  No one missed it, including us.

I haven't seen toppers on cakes in real life since the 80s. For a beach theme, I wouldn't expect to see anything other than beachy decor. Chocolate or real shells for example. If you want a monogram topper, go for it.

What if you did a monogram topper with sugared sea shells on the base of the topper?  Then you could have more sea shells sparingly placed on the two tiers and at the base.  I think a topper is definitely optional.
