Publix Bakery for the cake?

Has anyone used Publix for their wedding cake? Which style did you get from their catalog? (http://www.publix.com/food/catalog/Bakery/WeddingSpecialOccasion/Wedding/Home.do) How much did it cost? Was it good? Pictures?

Tell me all about it! I realize prices may vary by location...

My FI's step-mother works as head baker in the Publix bakery - so we have had many a cake from there. They are always delicious. I've seen her do "Covered with Love," and "Exotic Elegance." <-- And no, I didn't know the names until I clicked on your link. haha. I posted a couple that she has done, if that helps.... :)

I think they are pretty affordable and taste is good if you like other Publix brand cakes. There is nothing wrong with using a large-scale bakery over a smaller speciality shop, just make sure you know some of their bakers can do the cakes you want.

I'm not helpful as far as price....ours will be free.

I haven't had a Publix cake, but I've heard they are great.  When I'm in FL, I love Publix for shopping.

Eta: I've noticed occasionally some ladies will post a $20 off wedding cakes coupon for Publix, I'd ask around your local board to see if there's a deal going.

I know nothing about Publix, but I just wanted to tell which cake from their catalog that I absolutely loved :-) True Lovers, Lovers for a Lifetime, Covered with Love, and Gentle Touch are incredible. I can't believe they're from a grocery store. I'm sure your guests will think the same thing.

I love Publix bakery! I have never had a cake, or sweet treat from their bakery that I didn't melt over.  YES, Yes, Yes.  Publix was at the top of my list! My only thing about my cake is the type of icing to use. I wandt buttercream icing for my cake but I also want my cake to have that beautiful look that fondount (I know its spelled wrong, lol) can give. But I've heard it's really nasty!!

For those of you getting a Publix cake:
They look fabulous! But I noticed that Publix won't actually put flowers on the cake. Are you placing the flowers on yourself or having a florist do it? Also, does Publix deliver?

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Publix Bakery for the cake? : We placed the flowers on our cake (and the other decor on the sheetcakes) ourselves.  Our bakery didn't put them on there either, but it wasn't difficult or time-consuming at all.  Just make sure you do a trial-run with partially-iced some boxes or something if you're nervous.  That way, you have a general idea of how the flowers will "stick" and how they need to be cut/prepped.

We are actually doing our tasting at Publix on Sunday.  What I've heard about Publix is that it really depends on which Publix you go to.  The pastry chefs are different at each Publix, and they actually make them in the store.  If you look at the book in the store instead of online, they also have more sugar flowers they can do, so if you like one look, but don't want calla lillies, you can get a different type of flowers.  If you want real flowers on the cake, usually your florist is responsible for that instead of the pastry chef.  I really hope the cake tastes great because I'm hoping to get my cake from Publix!

I am getting a publix cake. For a price idea, we are paying 240 for a three tiered cake (12 inch-9inch-6 inch) One tier will be chocolate, one vanilla, one marbled. We are getting white buttercream frosting, and want it relatively simple, with only a blue ribbon around each tier. They let you have a slice of cake to try, and they deliver for a fee. They also make the cake the morning of your event, so you know it is fresh. We haven't gotten ours yet, but from the experience so far, I say go for it if you want to try them out.
