Catering gratuity

My reception site says in their catering policy that they "do not add gratuitities or service fees to your final bil. Gratuities are not required". Am I still expected to tip for the overall bill?

You should definitely still tip. If you think about it, the waitstaff and cooks put the most physical labor into your wedding day out of all your vendors. I would just give the lump sum tip to the catering manager at the end of the night, for okay service 10%, good service 15% or great service 20% and up. Gratuity has to be taxed so the manager will just divvy it up between the waitstaff, bartenders, and cooks then include it on their paychecks.

My venue charges an 18% gratuity on the final bill, so I don't think we'll be giving any add'l $ to them. If gratuities were not required, I would still tip them at least 15% for great service.
