My fiance and I are on a super tight budget... I want a cake to do the whole cake cutting thing, but he hates cake... Any ideas of a non-cake option that we can still cut??

We are having a "fake cake" with possibly a real layer to cut for show. FI and I are not cake people. Our dinner menu includes a dessert so we are serving an assorted dessert plate of mini cheese cakes, truffles, cream puffs and petit fours. My MOH thought that because we are "showing" a cake people will expect that but I don't think so.

Thoughts? Do guests expect cake? It is such an added expense for the cake serving and cutting fee. Not worth it to us!

There is a local baker who has a stand at the local farmer’s market who makes fabulous little lime cakes, pumpkin cakes, apple cakes, fruit tart, etc, so I am considering having a dessert spread of her cakes, which would fit with our rustic fall themed wedding

My first wedding we did whoopie pies and stacked them like a cake, powder sugared them and added a flower topper.  We also had a custom sign that said "whoopie!  Chris & Jenn got married!"
