I can't imagine carting home a box full of chocolate from a fountain, even if it did harden.  I would just provide the fountain for guests to enjoy while at the reception.  Even if it were an option to take it home, as a guest I would pass.

I agree with PP. I am not sure it's physically possible to send people home with chocolate from a fountain unless you send it with them in little go-cups with fruits and other things to dip it.  It seems messy.  Maybe you could have a chocolate bar instead of a fountain and one of the components of the chocolate bar could be a large chocolate fondue pot?  It would give guests the same melty-yummy experience as a fountain, but could double as favors if people want to take home the hard candy?

Ditto. I can't imagine taking home choclate from a fountain.  Even if it was somehow an option I'd probably pass.  I would just let guests enjoy this at the wedding.  If you want to leave out little boxes for the extra items (whatever is being dipped in the chocolate) you could do that, but still I'd probably pass.  Maybe just have chocolate bars as your favor or something like that instead?

I love chocolate fountains, but would probably not bring dipped stuff home. I wouldn't want to deal with the mess. Use the fountain, give guests wrapped chocolate to take with them.

Ditto PPs.  Chocolate fountains are one of my favorite things ever, but I wouldn't want to take anything home from it. Do some kind of wrapped chocolate as a favor instead.

Yep, all of the above.  I think the reason it won't harden is because the chocolate they use in fountains isn't tempered, so it will stay soft (FI is a chocolatier).
