Cake cutting question

I need some help with this, because even though this should be simple and straightforward, I figured it wouldn't hurt to double check:

We are having a 4 tier cake (which will be feeding all of our guests), and when we do the cake cutting in front of everyone, we know we're  just supposed to cut a small peice to feed eachother...our cake is fondant, and I have heard you're not supposed to eat it? I don;t want to be like, peeling fondant off our little "feeding" peice in front of guests...

some people may think this is a dumb question, but I've never in my life had a cake with fondant on it, and I've heard that you can eat it, and from others that you're not supposed to...what is the "norm" with cutting fondant cakes at weddings?

TIA!

You can certainly eat fondant. However, many prefer not to as it's not often especially tasty. It's made to be malleable for decorations, not necessarily to be delicious.

However, when you put your slice of cake on the plate, the fondant will only be over the frosting - you can always cut a bite from the bottom or inner part of the cake to feed to each other.

    Perfect, thank you!

this was one of those dumb details, that I hadn't thought about, and knowing me and FI, we would probably have gotton to that moment, and looked at each other like we didn't know what to do...LOL

All fondant basically is made from is marshmallows, powder sugar and gelatin.  It is 100% edible.

Depending on the brand your baker uses, it can actually taste really good.  The cheap brands are the ones that taste chemically and get hard.
