Mixologist?

We are thinking of having a marquee reception at home, and having the marquee set up lounge style. Cocktail food (catered) and champagne (and wine and beer etc) from 3-7, and then a more casual party, spit roast, nice salads, bread rolls etc for a casual dinner, 7-11ish. There will be enough seats and table areas for everyone to eat their dinner, but knowing most of our friends, we will all be full from cocktail food to bother to eat much.

My FI and I love cocktails, and love talented mixologist, I love the "show" of them making a great cocktail. Do you think it would be cool to get 1 or 2 mixologist's (as apposed to a regular bartender) for the night? And would you have them all day/night eg. 8-9 hours, or just for the cocktail food part, or just for the dinner/party part? I would probably get them to make 10 ish at a time, and have waitstaff (students maybe) to then pass them around on trays, rather than having them make one or two at a time.

I have included a couple of pictures of the style we are going for. I would have more tables set up though, for eating dinner at, but it would not be formal.

I think having a mixologist would be really cool. I'd hire them for the whole night, if you can afford it. That said, I doubt the guests will notice the mixologist too much but I'd still do it because you would enjoy having them there!

What is a marquee reception out of curiosity?

I think that a mixologist would be the SHIIT, but would also be lost on a lot of guests. If you can absolutely afford it, go nuts. If it might cause you to sacrifice other things, skip it.

(I like to think I'd be one of the guests who appreciates it, but who knows!)

Oh, a Marquee at home, instead of a reception venue, but set up like a bar/lounge would be, rather than head tables/long tables etc

We're looking to hire a mixologist for our weddings, and they will work along w/ the other bar backs to have extra help. I'd check your local board, becasue some of them will create your own signature wedding cocktail. Very cool!

I think thats an awesome idea! As long as you can afford it, go for it :) And I really like the idea of them making you a signature drink. I would say probably just hire them for one part of the day, whichever you think your guests would appreciate more. I personally would have them come for dinner.

I think it is a really cool idea if it's within budget. I'm sure it can get pretty pricey to hire someone for such a long period of time. However, if that is too much and you still like it, you can definitely go with the idea you mentioned regarding having the mixologist for cocktail hour only. I think people will notice for a while, but they wont be looking all night as they are mosty there to visit with you and the groom and everyone else. But I like the idea!
