Do I need cake at an hors d'oeuvre reception?

Cake isn't really a big deal to us, so we were wondering if it was a necessity. We are having an afternoon reception (1-4, or 2-4), and will be serving medium-heavy hors d'oeuvres. Thanks!

I think offering some type of dessert would be nice.  If you and your FI don't like cake, then you could have something you do like.  Pie, cheesecake, etc.

I think you should have cake or some kind of dessert.  To me, it doesn't feel like a wedding without cake or something sweet.

Maybe since you're doing hors doeuvres, you could do truffles and small desserts like that that could be passed.

Thanks for the input! These were great ideas! Maybe little cannolis or creme brulee... and I'm a sucker for cheesecake!

We are not doing a cake at our reception but our caterers offer a chocolate fountain which I thought would take up a table usually reserved for a wedding cake!
