HELP!! Open Bar Question

Recently my venue did not pass their liquor license, which is good and bad for me.. Good because I can cut costs by going on base to get liquor, beer, wine, and champagne.  Bad because now I have to do all the work while in school student teaching... My question is I’m having about 180 people and we all like to have a good time, not alcoholics but we do drink and have fun... How much liquor, beer, wine, and champagne for an entire reception toast do we get?? I am planning on getting three different types of bottled beer, all types of liquor but we are mostly vodka drinkers, a few types of white and a few types of red, champagne for the toast. Anyone have any idea?? It would be a huge help!!

Thanks!

Re: HELP!! Open Bar Question

  • The average drinker will find something to drink from the following list:

    Vodka
    Rum
    Whiskey
Beer (get at least one domestic light and 1-2 more non-light beers)
Wine (at least 1 red, 1 white)
You can add Gin, Tequila or whatever liquor might be popular in your crowd

    Mixers get:
    coke
    diet coke
    sprite
    club soda
    tonic
    cranberry
    OJ
    Pineapple

Sure people have preferences, but they will generally drink what is available if it's free.

We brought in our own booze also.  Our supplier allowed up to bring back any bottle (alcohol or not) that was not opened.  That really helped because if we over-bought we could just bring it back.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
