Ice Cream Cake!

I'm somewhat of a non-traditional bride. We don't have a lot of money and I don't like cake, so my fiance suggested we get a Dairy Queen ice cream cake (I loooove ice cream!) I found a few pictures of brides using a 2-tiered Dairy Queen cake and think it's a great idea.

Has anyone else used ice cream cake? Just wanting to hear how it went for you and if you have any advice. I know I can't have it out on display very long, but I don't care.

Re: Ice Cream Cake!

  • Ice cream cake is fine.  Don't serve some of your guests the special dessert while everyone else eats regular cake.  It's extremely rude.
  • I would do ice-cream cake for all or none at all. As a guest I would be upset if I saw you guys eating ice cream cake and I didnt get the option.
    Pumpernickel and olive juice
  • Oh, I was going to suggest that you have the caterer's cake and serve ice cream with it--that way you can have ice cream, but everyone is served the same thing.  (I wrote a longer reply initially, but TK ate it.)

I agree with this! I once went to a wedding where the bridal party ate lobster while all the guests ate tasteless chicken.  EVERYONE talked about how rude they were to eat that in front of everyone! So don't be like that!

Ps. My FI and I don't like cake either, but we found this bakery that does an almond pound cake with a rasberry layer. Fabulous!!! We both scoffed down the entire slice! And we don't eat cake!

I agree with this.  Another thing to keep in mind are your guests who either cannot eat ice cream or who don't like ice cream (and yes we are out there).

Who couldn't eat ice cream but could eat wedding cake?  It almost always contains dairy.  Maybe someone with sensitive teeth?  =P

    Gluten free?
  • I went to a wedding this past weekend that had DQ ice cream cake. It was a hit! They actually had a chocolate ice cream cake and a mint chocolate ice cream cake, and served every other. FI and I loved that we got to share and have both flavors. I say go with all ice cream cake, your guests will love it!
