Top Sirloin v. Filet Mignon for 150+ Wedding?

Hi Everyone,

I'm a first time poster, but I've been lurking on the knot for about 5-6 years now.  Since I have some down time to start thinking about wedding food, I'm stuck between the Grilled Black Angust Top Sirloin dish offered by the westin colonnade in Miami vs. their Filet Mignon dish.  The difference between the two is only $4, and I know that theoretically, Filet is supposed to be a lot more tender, etc. but this has NOT been the case at other weddings I've attended.  So, I'm wondering if anybody knows/has tasted these two options and can tell me how the meats held up in the production line that catered food tends to be in hotels?  Any advice on this topic is much appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

I personally think they are both good. Just depends on how the cater does with keeping them moist. I like fliet mignon!!!

Do they offer both at the restaurant in the Westin - and are these the same people that handle the catering?  You and your FI can go to dinner one night and order both to test them out.

I've definitely had bad overcooked filet, but overall, I think its high fat content allows more room for error.  That being said, filet is so common at weddings, serving a sirloin done deliciously would be unexpected.

Yeah, it really depends on the caterer. If they're good, they can do both really well. I don't think this is something we can judge.

But, for the record, I've had more poorly done filet mignon than I have had steak. Undecided Sometimes it astounds me how many weddings I've gone to with bad food.

Ask on your local board to see if anyone has actually had either at a wedding there.  Just click on Local Wedding Boards on the left side here to find yours.

I personally do not like either.  I am a chicken/fish girl.

I know this post is a little dated....but I stumbled upon it because I'm debating the same thing.  What did you end up choosing?
