Hors d'oeuvres - # per person?

Hi - We are having a cocktail hour (no more than one hour, but maybe a little shorter) at 5:30pm.  A bbq dinner buffet (sliced brisket, chicken, baked beans, and gouda mac n cheese, cole slaw) immediately following the cocktail hour.   I would like some hors d'oeuvres available but I'm not sure what number I should plan on per person.

We are getting married outdoors on a polo farm (hence the bbq;  laid back, vintage theme), so we were thinking veggie trays, pigs in a blanket, etc.

160 guests.

Any thoughts?  Thanks!

What type of hors d'oeurves are you thinking?  I think it could depend on what size and whether you're serving very light stuff or heavier things.  I can't exactly remember but when I was venue shopping I think most of the places said they calculate about 5-7 hors d'oeuvres per person.  I could be totally off though.
  • 5-7 pieces per person

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Appetizers I like:

    Scallops wrapped in bacon
    Deviled eggs
    Soup shooters
    Caprese salad skewers
    Fruit pieces, grapes, figs, berries
Cups of dip with veggie slices
Cheeses, foccacia, bread, olives, herbed olive oil
Hush puppies or chickpea fritters (falafel) with chili pepper glaze/dip
Shrimp puffs or crab cakes with remoulade
