Fire & Ice Food Ideas

Our theme is fire and ice.  We want to mix spicy and non-spicy food to go with the theme.  For cocktail hour we are serving shrimp cocktail with a spicy and mild sauce, pull pork sliders w/ jalapeno or regular coleslaw, bacon wrapped water chesnuts, buffalo chicken egg rolls, & two different soup shooters - gazpacho (spicy) and strawberry.  The main dishes will be:  1)  Chicken breast topped with watermelon fire & ice salsa and 2) smoked prime rib (we are still debating other main dishes).  The reception place does not have a kitchen so the food has to be prepared offsite (about a 30 minute drive).  We are trying to combine tradition with edgy for the fire and ice theme.

Any suggestions for side dishes?

I see one major problem with this whole thing: A lot of people don't like spicy food (myself being one of them) and I would be sorely disappointed to go to a wedding and find out that all that food that I would want to eat is spicy. You might find that you run out of "mild" or non spicy food and then what do people eat?

I maybe wasn't clear.  We are giving the people a choice of "fire" or "ice" (spicy or mild) and then a choice of chicken or prime rib.  So I need side dishes that will work with either choice.  The reason we did this is because we love spicy food but we know that some people don't.

Also, we are doing a plated, seated dinner.

I think this is afatastic idea for a winter wedding!  We aren't serving that much food at ours, but would mimic your idea if we were!  Go for it!

I think it's a really cool idea too. It might be cool to play with the concept in terms of hot (meaning warm) and cold temperatures too...  a raw bar and a grilling station for example.

    I like the idea.

    How about:

    jalapeno or regular cornbread
fries with ketchup or curry ketchup (or chipotle mayo)
wasabi mashed potatoes vs. garlic mashed potatoes

I don't know if this would work (probably not, and depends on what kind of staff you have) but I love when they do "tableside guacamole" at restaurants and come to your table and ask how spicy you want it.

You definitely need some real fire and ice in there somewhere. You should do flambes for dessert! Also, maybe an ice bar.
