Tell me your cake flavors & fillings...

I'm trying to get some ideas for cake flavors & fillings to give to the person making my cake. She said I could give her about 5 different flavors for our cake testing. My wedding will be in October at a country club. FI and I aren't really cake people so I'm trying to figure out what others like. I'll probably have a 4 tier and was thinking about doing different flavors for each tier -- or maybe just 2 flavors and alternate tiers.

Bottom tier was Belgian chocolate truffle, middle was orange-almond sponge cake with orange blossom-Grand Marnier meringue buttercream, top was buttermilk spice cake with same buttercream. All tiers were covered with homemade orange blossom fondant. Got some great feedback on the whole thing, including the comment that it was the first fondant that was actually tasty.

Bottom tier: white cake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream
Middle tier: half chocolate and half vanilla cake (half layer of each) and truffle filling
Top tier: either white cake with vanilla custard and burnt almond crunch filling or lemon cake with raspberry creme

Our three flavors: "Orange Blossom" is a white cake that's orange-scented with an orange blossom custard filling and orange slices, "Texas Pecan" is fluffy cake w/ bits of pecan in it and a pecan/caramel custard filling, and then a traditional white cake layer of, well, white cake filled with buttercream and raspberries.  We're doing a buttercream cake, so they'll all be frosted in vanilla buttercream.  Delicious!

the one just for us will be a chai tea spice cake with spice cream buttercream YUM!

the other 2 will be a vanilla bean cake with mango passion fruit buttercream and either vanilla bean or chocolate cake with strawberry buttercream

We just did our cake tasting this weekend. We were given 24 different flavours!!! It's a lot of fun - you'll definitely enjoy this :)

We're doing chocolate with a buttercream filling, as that's my favorite, and white cake with chocolate chips and buttercream filling, as that's FI's favorite. I also loved the french vanilla with rasberry swirl and rasberry filling.

    1) Chocolate cake with mocha mousse.
    2) Vanilla with raspberry
    3) Red velvet with cream cheese
    4) Our tier - also red velvet

Groom's cake: Chocolate with peanut butter frosting.

Nothing too exotic, but I think a nice mix and a good portion of chocolate!

For our October 9th wedding, we ordered a pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese filling and buttercream frosting.  We also considered a blueberry cake with cream cheese filling.

I just went to my first cake tasting two weeks ago and I had the most amazing cake that was apple with buttercream icing. Amazing. Taskted like apple pie in a cake! Unfortunately other than the tasting the meeting was a disaster so we won't be using that cake baker!

I have 3 different types. the sheet cake "out back" will be white cake with chocolate truffle filling. The bottom and top layer of our cake is lemon cake with an orange jelly? filling. and the middle layer is lemon cake with black cherry buttercream. all very good. mine is a late summer wedding and the lemon and orange which is our main filling is really fresh and light ( as light as a very buttery buttercream can be) =D good luck and have fun!!!

We did a different flavor for each tier too. Our flavors were orange spice, lemon curd, italian cream with fresh raspberries, and chocolate ganache.

We are doing alternating tiers of chocolate with chcolate mousse and vanilla with vanilla mousse. We are keeping it pretty simple :)

Our cake is chocolate with fresh strawberries for the bottom and top tier.  The middle tier is vanilla with fresh strawberries.
I love strawberries and pairing them up with a chocolate cake tastes just like eating chocolate covered strawberries.

Ours will be a lemon with poppyseed cake, with a light buttercream and fresh raspberry filling! So yummy! (Plus it's great for a summer wedding)
We originally wanted more than one flavour - but our baker said since the cake will be served as dessert it should be all one flavour so there is nobody requesting specific cake and no frustrated servers!
(We're also having a red velvet with cream cheese groom's cake)

on platinum weddings i saw a baker offer the bride & groom several cake flavors with several icing flavors in little cups on the side so the couple could mix & match to find what they liked best.

Wow! I'm not a cake person either but some of these sound so good I am completely re-thinking leaving cake choice up to FI :)

I was surprised to see so many answers that had "lemon" in them. I thought I was the odd one out for loving lemon cake! YAY :)

A good friend and wonderful cake baker is doing our October wedding cake pro-bono so I took it easy on her. 4 layers - alternating chocolate and lemon with a buttercream frosting.

Looks to me like there are too many answers to this question and you should just pick a few and run with it.

    Good luck!

We are doing red velvet with a chocolate truffle filling and buttercream frosting! So Good!!!!

We're keeping it totally simple, because I'd rather not have people complain about the wedding cake (and ruin everyone's day. I know my picky extended family would!).

We are having a 3-layer cake from a local bakery (Amphora's in Herndon, VA). Top tier and bottom tier: Chocolate cake with milk chocolate mousse filling, middle tier: white cake with white chocolate mousse filling.  had a tiny version of these same flavors in my birthday cake (also from Amphora), and it was so amazing, we decided these would be the best flavors for the wedding cake as well.

I would say that unless ALL of your wedding guests are Foodies and like to try new and crazy flavors, at least have one more "normal" option that everyone will like, so everyone can at least say they tried the cake.
Although I think mango and papya mouse filling in a cake would be divine, it may not be everyone's cup of tea.

Brandy Buttermilk Cake with Italian Cherries, filled with Pistachio pastry cream and frosted with a traditional buttercream.  Our baker created this flavor for us based on a breadpudding dessert we had that we loved.  It is fantastic!!!

White cake with a white chocolate ganche . I think this has the best flavor with out being over powering and the icing was just a good buttercream.
