Has anyone ever done this? Gone ahead and had no sweets at a wedding?

I've been to weddings where something other than cake was served, but I've never been to a wedding with a meal and no dessert course served.  Are you serving a meal?

nope this is more of a picnic wedding. We found this beautiful idea of fresh fruit placed in beautiful cupcake holders, which is more soon to be hubby and I more than cake but wondering if this would be ok. Our guests would expect something like this but wondering if anyone has seen this done.

Every wedding I have gone to has had a dessert of some sort, usually cake but stometimes a dessert bar or cheesecake.

Fresh fruit as part of the dessert sounds lovely, but I think you should have another option for guests who want something sweeter.  A tray of brownies or cookies seems like it would fit well with your meal, or you could have cupcakes to go with how you're serving the fruit.  

Even though you say your guests would expect it, is that what they would actually prefer?

Remember to choose your dessert with your guests in mind, not just what appeals to you and FI.  If I were a guest, I'd certainly munch on a piece of fruit, but I'd quietly be a little disappointed.

Instead of putting the fruit in cupcake wrappers you could put them in little chocolate cups.

I have never been to a wedding without any sweets. I agree with PP, that there should be at least 1 sweets option..I am a dietitian, but would crave more than fruit for dessert at a wedding! Cookies or brownies would be plenty and very appropriate for your casual wedding.

I can totaly see not realy wanting cake considering if your wedding is in the summer and in the location of where you live. The heat sometimes makes ppl not tend to want to eat something as heavy as cake. Fruit is so much more refreshing in the extream heat weather your venue is airconditioned or not. You could also go with your fruit idea and maybe have angel food cake so if ppl wanted they can put the fruit on thier cake, I think angelfood cake is the "lightest" cake.

It's very hot and humid in the summer here, heavy desserts aren't really desireable so I definitely understand - but opt to add a tray of sugar cookies or something to complement the fruit. It adds a bit of substance to the fruit (i'm assuming you're talking melons/apples/berries) and it'll be well rounded.

I haven't seen it at a wedding, but we have a lot of casual parties and we use "Fruit Salsa and cinnamon sugar pita chips" it's very satisfying as an end to a meal.
