Cake Topper

My FI wants to get a cake topper (I'm not sure what style he's thinking), but I think the cake will look better and more elegant without one.

Are you using a cake topper and if so, what kind (monogram, people, animals, etc)?

We have two choices but I refuse to pay $29 for it so I keep looking on ebay or classifieds. The ones we want each have a sand drawn heart but one the couple lounging (just like one of our engagement photos) the other the groom is carrying the bride and the heart says Just Married...originally we were going to go with just a monogram but they all looked cheap

I'm using a monogram. They were so expensive so I bought one on e bay and covered it with swaroski crystals myself.

Im including the pic of the one we will be using. It will have the two hearts theme on it and comes with a wooden stand so that after the wedding it can be saved and put in a shadow box or on the mantle.

I purchased two banner cake toppers from this etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/ReadyGo.  (We just got plain banners, not the ones with the bride and groom.)  One says "Love is Sweet," and one says our names.  We are having a dessert buffet that includes two small cakes, so one will go in each cake.  The shop owner gave me a small discount for buying two.

My wedding is based on the fact that it is taking place on the Chesapeake Bay.  That being said, we are going with a cute topper with 2 crabs.  The person who makes this can customize it so accessory colors match our wedding.  She does all kinds of toppers (even though I think most are too cheesy looking).

I am making sugar flowers on the top of my cake. I didnt like the looks of any other toppers and I think with the design of my cake that it needs the flowers on top and nothing else will do

    I love the crab toppers!

I hadn't planned on having a cake topper, I think most of them look kind of cheesy, but when we went to the bakers on Friday and they asked, he was very insistent on a topper.  I'm fine with it, especially when he told me he had always wanted a bride/groom topper on the cake, and there was one in particular he saw in a store when he was 15 that he apparently saw frequently (it was in a grocery store his family went to) and that he used to look at it and imagine it being on his wedding cake.

How on earth could I refuse after that???
